Your new company
Our client was the first overseas branch of a large Corporation established in London in 1964 and acting as the main European sales and procurement base for the group. In 2019 they launched its Research and Development Department and in 2020 established the Additive laboratory based on the Granta science park site in Cambridge. Laboratory activities are focused on additive manufacturing of metallic materials using electron beam powder bed fusion (EPBF).
IHI Europe Ltd. (IEL) was the first overseas branch of IHI Corporation established in London in 1964 and acting as the main European sales and procurement base for IHI group. In 2019 IEL launched its Research and Development Department and in 2020 established IHI Additive laboratory (IAL) within TWI Ltd. on the Granta science park site in Cambridge. Laboratory activities are focused on additive manufacturing of metallic materials using electron beam powder bed fusion (EPBF).
Your new role
As a laboratory technician you will assist in the work of the project manager as well as being responsible for the day to day housekeeping within the lab. Responsibilities will include:
Setting up, running and monitoring of print jobs.
Organisation of experiment samples.
Maintenance of laboratory equipment including but not limited to vacuum pumps, glovebox, and optical microscope.
Waste management.
Ad hoc administrative duties.
As a laboratory technician within IAL you will assist in the work of the project manager as well as being responsible for the day to day housekeeping within the lab. Responsibilities will include:

What you'll need to succeed
Candidates must hold either a bachelors in manufacturing engineering or other appropriate science such as materials engineering OR hold a level 3 NVQ diploma in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities with a focus on Industrial Science. Candidates should possess a high level of organisation, the ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to work to defined procedures and accurately record results. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Linux operating systems. Previous work experience in a production environment is preferable but not necessary.

Depending on the status of existing research projects and employee performance an opportunity to extend the contract may be provided.
