Connect2Luton are working in partnership with Luton Borough Council to recruit experienced Fostering Assessing Social Worker to work in Children and Learning Department.

The main purpose of this post is to undertake the full range of social work duties in relation to statutory Family Placement work in accordance with the National Minimum Standards for Fostering Services and Fostering Services Regulations, Promoting the best interests of children and young people at all times.

The role:

The postholder will be an integral part of the Fostering Team. In this role, you will have a varied caseload involving recruiting, assessing or supervising foster carers, as well as delivering high quality training and support.

You need to have good forensic assessment skills, be able to supervise foster carers and support placements effectively. You will need to be able to contribute to planning for children and present reports to fostering panels. You will need to be familiar with the TSD standards and have comprehensive knowledge of fostering regulations and legislation.

Principal Responsibilities

Recruitment and assessment of prospective carers (general foster carers and connected person's carers) in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Actively promoting training and development of foster carers, colleagues and own personal needs by providing support.
Maintain appropriate records using Liquid Logic and work to departmental policies and procedures.
Working alongside members of the Locality Teams, making and supporting placements and attending permanency planning meetings to drive permanency planning and achieve this at the earliest opportunity for the child.
Keeping up-to-date with legislation, research and practice in relation to child care and the placement of children in substitute families, and carry out duties in accordance with the Fostering service national minimum standards and regulations and the Social work regulator.
Offering advice on family placement matters and attending departmental meetings as delegated by the Fostering Team Manager. Attend and participate in meetings and team events as required.Skills and Experience

Substantial post qualifying experience in fostering.
Able to undertake statutory duties under the Children Act 1989, Fostering Minimum Standards and Care Planning and Fostering Regulations 2015
In-depth ability to make professional judgements in a multi-disciplinary setting, including negotiating resources
Able to effectively communicate and work with service users, which will include children, foster carers and with a wide range of other professionals
Demonstrable ability to maintain high quality records, write clear, concise reports and correspondence dealing with complex issues.
Substantial knowledge of legislation and statutory responsibilities relating to Children and Family Services, including appropriate Quality standards.
Demonstrable ability to work with the Agency's I.T equipment for the purpose of case recording
Dip SW, CQSW, or recognised equivalent professional qualification.
