Based in Stirling my clients' products are used worldwide in providing innovative new healthcare technologies, using the delivery of microwave energy to support the treatment of conditions within both dermatology and oncology.

The business is a global leader in the field of medical microwave technology, specialising in the development and manufacture of compact medical microwave generator systems for both own product and OEM customers. This is a dynamic and forward-looking company with continual R&D investment into cutting edge immune-modulating microwave medical treatments.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Software Engineer will be the lead software authority with ownership of internal software development policies and tools within the company.
This role would ideally suit a lead Software Engineer who enjoys working across the full product lifecycle - from product concept through to manufacturing support. The role will include responsibility as lead designer for embedded software for an innovative new medical treatment platform, incorporating software development planning, specification, design, verification and validation. In addition, design of supporting PC-based manufacturing test software for the new platform, alongside maintenance of existing test software as required.

As a medical devices company, certified to ISO 13485, accuracy of documentation is essential throughout product design and maintenance. This includes a thorough systems engineering approach to documenting requirements, verification/validation activities, and with consideration of quality and risk management throughout.

Position Summary

Qualifications/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Software/Electronics Engineering (or similar).
Minimum of 2 years' experience in embedded software design for microcontrollers/microprocessors, with practical experience in interfacing to electronics (e.g. ADCs, memory, digital resistors, temperature sensors, displays, display drivers etc.).
Attentive and accurate approach in defining and following coding guidelines (e.g. MISRA); and in defining detailed verification and validation approaches, including code reviews and static/dynamic analysis.
Experience of working within the medical devices sector or a similar highly regulated/safety critical sector is desirable. Skills:

High standard of communication and written skills required due to the significant level of documentation requirements associated with medical device development.
Competent in use of Visual Studio, .net,C#.
Competent in test software design including communications with test equipment, including use of labview/lab windows.
Demonstrable multi-disciplinary and practical hands-on engineering approach.
High attention to detail and methodical approach to ensure requirements are comprehensively met.
Confident and comfortable in customer communications, and in any size of group meetings.
Ability to create ideas and develop solutions; excellent problem-solving skills.
Leadership and team working skills.
Desirable: Design for communication protocols including USB, Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, RS232, RS485, Bluetooth Low Energy Key Tasks:

Product Development

Designing, developing, and qualifying embedded software within medical device systems and products incorporating advanced microwave technology, in accordance with the Company's design control procedures and quality standards.
Support and maintenance of existing test software, including change management and product updates to meet the latest regulations.
Lead software authority with ownership of internal software development policies and tools within the company.
Carrying out verification and validation activities to agreed schedules, quality and cost.
Working with and managing suppliers, subcontractors and other engineering disciplines.
Generating design documentation in compliance with the Company's design control procedures.
Generating manufacturing documentation in compliance with quality standards.
Maximising product Design for Assembly and Design for Test. Quality Assurance

Managing product or process changes/updates in accordance with the Company's standard operating procedures and in compliance with ISO 13485 and QSR.
Supporting QA investigations relating to processes, manufacturing, or customer returns.
