We are delighted to present this fantastic opportunity for a Research Technologist to work with us, as part of a multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for fundamental and exploratory studies in chemistry to support bp group operations and to appraise and develop new low carbon technology opportunities for business renewal.
Advanced Bio and Physical Sciences for Low Carbon Energy (ABPS) is a global team with world class laboratory facilities in Hull, San Diego and Dalian China. A multi-faced group with skills and expertise in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, and computational sciences.
We are looking for a Research Technologist to join us at bp’s research and innovation centre in Hull. Reporting into the Laboratory Operations Manager, the technologist will be accountable for contributing to the development of a positive HSSE culture and working across the operations in Hull to improve safety and efficiency. Working in partnership with our chemists and engineers, you will plan and execute laboratory experimental programmes, utilising cutting edge high temperature, high pressure once through screening, distillation and experimental test units from a variety of well-known vendors.
One main element of the role is to record, manipulate and interpret experimental data, and report results and conclusions both orally and in writing. You will also co-ordinate maintenance and modification activities, including acting as building safety warden, equipment custodian and other operational roles as required. And from time to time, provide operational input to projects for installation of new equipment or implementation of new laboratory techniques.
We are looking for someone with laboratory experience, particularly with operating lab & pilot scale high temperature/high pressure process equipment. This is a very hands-on lab based role and requires experience of working in a similar environment.
Qualified to at least ‘A’ Level science or equivalent. In an ideal world, you would hold a degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related subject and the following would be a further bonus:
- Familiarity with safety systems such as, Control of Work, COSHH, Management of Change.
- Working knowledge of operating systems and data manipulation tools i.e. Openlab, DeltaV, Labvantage, Spotfire.
- Experience of working with third parties to maintain, modify and/or build and install experimental equipment and knowledge of catalyst synthesis, analysis, and testing.
