Reporting to the Head of Culinary, as NPD technologist the successful candidate will be developing new products, processes and technologies that will enable the business to meet its key customer and partner requirements, and to support its targeted growth.
The Role
* Carry out bespoke, collaborative NPD for key customers and partners to support their journey to launch, and proactive NPD to fit with key market trends and support the business' reputation of innovation.
* NPD administration that includes, recipe, costing and product specification (creation and sign off) and ensuring that NPD pathway documentation is clear and kept up to date.
* Ensure all raw material and application samples are sent in a timely manner with correct labelling and supporting documentation.
* Record and analyse experimental observations/data, along with qualitative and quantitative assessment of new products and raw materials.
* Provide experimental updates during meetings and present results formally, both verbally and written.
* Input on project plans including resource requirements, and work with the wider commercial and production teams to manage customer needs and expectations.
* Develop NPD process improvements that can improve efficiency and/or provide cost savings.
* Direct contact with suppliers, partners, collaborators, key industrial and other defined target accounts
* Project management - lead and manage a technical project, presenting a conclusion
Your experience
* To be considered for this NPD Technologist job, you will be educated to a degree level in a food science, food technology or food nutrition discipline and possess previous food product development experience, ideally in the plant based and meat analogue category, but not essential,
* You will have knowledge of NPD process, from concept to product launch together with a strong understanding of functional/technical ingredients and how to optimise their use in food.
* This is a hands-on role; therefore you will be happy working in both a development and production environment, both on your own and as part of a team, have a good awareness of food trends plus excellent understanding of nutrition and labelling.
* You will have relevant project management experience
* You will have analytical proficiency to map out the route to technical problem solving e.g. ingredient replacement
