We're pleased to announce that SThree is looking for an Automation Engineer, to be based in Glasgow, although working remotely for the foreseeable future. In this role, you'll be focused on developing, managing and supporting key systems related to the support function. It aims to support the current infrastructure whilst looking to maximise the support strategy of automation to promote productivity, maximising self-service, building efficient processes and systems and utilising data to inform strategic decisions

Key responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure the integrity and smooth running of automation processes including version upgrades with minimal or no downtime.
  • Actively look for opportunities to exploit automation across the IT department and wider SThree Group functions
  • Assist IT teams with ad-hoc data, maintenance, support and automation requests
  • Assist with staff training, knowledge transfer and support when required.

Development Approach

  • Developing high quality, robust solutions for all IT Services, using the most appropriate tools and techniques, on time and within budget to meet business expectations ensuring that relevant security policies and procedures are adhered to. With special focus on automation, self-healing and reducing manual repetitive work for the IT Operations Team
  • Ensure all developed solutions are adequately transitioned to production and can be supported by the relevant teams, particularly the IT Operations Team.
  • Ensure a pair programming approach is applied to the design and development processes where possible to ensure knowledge of the developed solutions is strong amongst key people in the department and these solutions can be supported from a development level.
  • Ensure all solutions are designed and maintained with line with high availability and disaster recovery standards to ensure a robust service.
  • Participating in the development of, and adhering to, appropriate technology and process standards, including programming, source code control, and version control and testing.

Leadership

  • Take ownership of automation tasks from planning to delivery and maintenance.
  • Assist in incident escalation and resolution
  • Assist with staff training, knowledge transfer and support when required.

What skills/experience are we seeking?

  • Broad technical knowledge base
  • Experience with PowerShell is essential
  • Experience of working with Active Batch or similar tool would be advantageous
  • Experience of PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XML/XSL are desirable
  • Proven experience of adhering to and enforcing agile development standards.
  • Proven experience of delivering creative and innovative solutions.
  • Experience in the following technologies would be an advantage: AWS, Azure, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Terraform, Citrix, Office 365, Salesforce, Cisco, Avaya
