(*depending on experience and skillset this could rise to £29,718)

The role is a permanent full-time position. It offers an excellent working environment and benefits package including 34 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated full stack web developer to join our Web department, working within one of the biggest and most successful students’ unions in the UK.

What you will be doing

You will work closely with the Head of Web Development to provide a high quality digital service to the whole organisation, our students and customers. You will be responsible for carrying out the day to day tasks of the department that range from coding systems in languages such as PHP & Python to providing support to any of our stakeholders. It’s an exciting time to join as the organisation are about to undertake a rebrand of the website and you will play a key role in the whole process. We also have ambitions to become a fully data driven organisation and we will look to you to support our goal of providing data as a service by developing new and current systems.

What we’re looking for

To be successful you will have good problem solving skills, be flexible and reliable, with the ability to multitask working on several projects at once.

You will need solid knowledge of developing web applications in a MVC framework using Laravel, JavaScript, CSS and HTML. You will have at least 12 months proven experience working on the full development life cycle of web application and not be afraid to get stuck in. You will have a strong understanding of data and how to analyse, manipulate and produce visualisation to support our decision making.

The Web Development and Data Protection Department provides the support and technical 'know how' to ensure our website and web related services run securely and intuitively. Our department also has the overall responsibility of managing the cardiffstudents.com, the website that has over 7 million hits each year.

As the custodians of the website and related customer, student and all stakeholder data, it is vital that we perform our duties using current industry standards and within legal regulations (including GDRP). We champion new technology and design methods where the user experience is always considered, to do so we ensure all team members attend digital conferences and are always exploring new ideas.
