Leonardo is a market leader in the development of Electronic Warfare (EW) sensor systems and the provision of EW Operational Support (EWOS) capabilities. Leonardo is required to support the development and operation of a national EW Centre (EWC) in Qatar, in which an indigenous EWOS capability shall be established, inclusive of the ability to generate platform-specific Mission Data Sets (MDS).
We are seeking two candidates to fulfil the role requirements to enable support to all areas within the Typhoon EW MD lifecycle in the Qatar EW Centre. Although both SMEs will support the full range of QEWS capability, overall main responsibilities will be split between the two SMEs in the following roles on the appropriate toolset and processes:
Integrated Generation System (IGS) / Identification Verification Systems (IVS) (Production, Test & Validation)
Post Flights Analysis (PFA) / Operations (Ops) (Analysis, Operations)
The successful candidate will ideally have MDS experience in relation to the Praetorian Defensive Aids Sub-System (DASS) fitted to the Eurofighter Typhoon platform, although similar experience with other platforms will also be considered.
What you will do
Working alongside an established engineering community, you will be responsible to the EW Advisor (BAE Systems) for the following:
Day-to-day support to the QEAF EWOs in the use of the following toolsets in Typhoon EW MD development and associated processes - IGS, Desktop DAC / AC, OMDET, and PFA.
Shall support MD requirements capture and the development of the MD Design Specification.
Shall provide quality assurance support throughout the Typhoon EW MD lifecycle.
Shall support the maintenance of Typhoon MD libraries.
Shall assist and advise the QEAF on the use of UK based HWIL rigs, including planning and coordination activities.
Shall be expected to undertake refresher training in the UK on an annual basis.
Shall provide coaching and mentoring in the workplace to the QEAF EWOs over the six-year period in order to develop QEAF Typhoon EW MD capability.
Shall act as the in-country POC for toolset/procedure queries, utilising the UK based support service where required.
Shall support customer flight trials in the Gulf Region.
EW SMEs shall undergo a period of UK based OJT/work experience, prior to deploying to Qatar in May 2022.
What we are looking for
Must be qualified within a relevant EW environment through either:
An engineering degree of equivalent qualification relating to EW (e.g. maths, physics, military sciences, engineering).
A graduate of a recognized advanced EW course within the UK Military environment.
Must have 4 years' experience in MD Operational support within an operational environment.
Must have 2 years' experience in Typhoon EW systems.
Understanding of EWOS and the EWOS lifecycle.
Must be an effective communicator and work well within a team, including as a mentor of junior EWOs.
Should have experience in teaching Typhoon MD toolsets and processes. (Desirable).
Must be SC cleared or at least be willing to obtain SC-level security clearance. In addition, the role may require clearance to access caveated information, such as Eyes Only and ITAR.
Understanding of DASS system technology, operation, function and performance.
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and the ability to interact with subject matter experts regarding a range of technical and operational topics
