Fire Extinguisher Fitter
JOB PURPOSE
• To carry out testing, repair and overhaul of fire extinguishers.
• To undertake hydrostatic testing of cylinders. (up to 3000 PSI)
• This will include inspecting / testing components, assembling (including welding), leak checking cylinders prior to charging and then filling them with gas.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Disassemble of fire extinguisher bottles
• Replace standard spares as part of the overhaul process
• Inspect individual parts and replace defective items.
• Thorough clean of components
• Hydrostatic testing of cylinders in accordance with Department of Transport requirements
• Re-assembly of the fire extinguisher components
• Charge Fire extinguishers with clean serviceable gas
EXPERIENCE:
• Previous experience of working with compressed gas systems, charging cylinders and overhauling components.
• Previous experience of working with Halon systems, charging bottles and overhauling components.
• Previous experience of working in an engineering/workshop environment.
• Prior experience working of interpreting and following in detail compliance manuals.
