The Soufflet Group is a French, family-owned business, with a passion for adding value to agricultural raw materials.

France's top private cereal collector, the Group, is a major player in supplying arable farmers, and in the vine and wine sector and advises and supplies farmers, vine growers and wine makers. An agricultural and industrial company specialising in the first conversion of cereals, the Soufflet Group operates mainly in the wheat and barley sectors in France, Europe and Asia and more locally - Burton on Trent. With twenty five malt plants world-wide, the malting division of Soufflet is an important player on the world malt market and is Europe's top maltster and is now one of the top millers in Europe.

Due to our ongoing success and expansion, we are seeking to appoint a Lead Laboratory Technician to lead our medium sized laboratory and small lab team.

The laboratory works across the whole of our process, testing raw materials (barley) on receipt, testing product during processing plus final product testing to ensure it meets our customers' requirements and specifications prior to and post-delivery. In addition, we do periodic checks on water being used in the process and surface water discharge direct to a water course.

We are looking for a person with a passion for science who wants to join us to raise the standards, and efficiency of service the laboratory provides to both our customers and the site, and who prides themselves on providing first class products and performance.

For the right candidate, this is a chance to build a career within the laboratory and use the knowledge and experience gained to move across to other functions in the future such as continuous improvement processes and site auditing. It is therefore essential you have a methodical, calm and attention to detail mindset. Analysis is only half the story; you then need to be able to communicate your results well and work with others to bring an energised, improvement focus to resolve issues and raise quality.

We are looking for a quick learner, with the ambition and thirst to grow within this role rapidly, and who wants to develop the lab. We need a strong all rounder and someone who has the aptitude to lead and coach the team.

Therefore, ideally you will have laboratory-based work experience alongside a science-based qualification plus an understanding of working with a Quality Management System, trending data, and using KPI's-responding to changed priorities to support production needs.
