About Us

Working across Devon and Cornwall, Havencare Homes and Support Limited is a forward-thinking charity that provides social care services for people with learning disabilities and autism.

Offering supported living and residential care services, we use a range of approaches to empower individuals, help them to be as independent as possible and nurture their potential with dignity and respect.

We are currently supporting Michael, a gentleman with a severe learning difficulty, mental health needs and autism, who may display behaviours of concern. Michael is planning to move into his new home in Illogan by June 2021 and is looking for a friendly and helpful team to support him at this exciting time.

Michael says: “My name is Michael, I am currently in hospital in Taunton, I am moving back to Cornwall to be with my family in the local area. I have bought my own home in the Illogan area and I am looking for a team that can support me for when I move. As with every house purchase this may take some time to ensure it can meet my needs but I am hoping to be living in my new home by June 2021, so would like to start thinking about what I would like from a support team. Havencare are going to support me to interview a team based on information of what I would like to from a support team. I would like my team to start building a relationship with me a couple of weeks before I move. I have many professionals and a very supportive family around me that will help with all the training you will need to have the right knowledge to support me.”

As such, we’re looking for a Care Team Leader to join us on a full-time basis, working 37.5 hours per week plus sleep-in duties.

The Benefits

- Salary of £10.60 per hour (£11.60 per hour for hours worked between 10pm – 7am)
- Contributory pension scheme
- Comprehensive employee assistance programme
- Help a lovely person to achieve his goals and live his best life
- Play an important part in developing and delivering innovative and person-centred services

The Role

As a Care Team Leader, you will ensure that we deliver a high-quality care service to Michael.

In this important role, you’ll supervise and encourage Support Workers and make sure that all staff are aware of Michael’s support outcomes.

Michael is a friendly and sociable man who loves sport, comedy (Dumb and Dumber is a personal favourite), meeting new people and the odd takeaway – especially noodles. He’s passionate about video games, films, golf, snooker, fishing and darts, and he’s looking for team members who share these interests.

Mum and Dad – “Michael is a lovely man, but he needs somebody who is confident working with people who can escalate and get anxious. When people are nice to him and treat him with care this is when you will get the best out of Michael and he will build a great bond with you! Michael loves his sport and loves a takeaway, especially noodles! He is friendly and sociable and loves to meet new people and chat to people out in the community. He would love to go fishing and play darts and golf. He likes to be treated like one of his team and feel like he is being worked WITH and not just looked after. “

Brother – “He needs staff with a good sense of humour, Michael loves comedy, dumb and dumber is one of his favourite films and will have him rolling around laughing! He needs to feel that he can trust and feel secure with his staff and they will keep him safe if he gets anxious. He needs to feel appreciated and valued by his team. He needs people to show an active interest in what he likes and enjoys like video games, films, golf, snooker, get involved explore it with him.”

A lack of stimulation or overstimulation can escalate Michael and when he becomes anxious, he can act in a way that pushes people away. He’ll benefit from individuals with a calm, but confident and assertive approach who can help him to get back on track and putting a smile on people’s faces.

Michael says: “I am looking for support staff who like to be active, enjoy sports and can drive.
I would like staff that are experienced, consistent and resilient- I am a very lovely person to be around and I guarantee I will put a smile on your face, however sometimes when I become anxious I can behave in a way that pushes people away- but with great support from you I will be back to putting that smile on your face.”
