Artificial Intelligence for Energy Materials Lead

Purpose of the job:

* Lead technical development projects and collaborations with industry and academia to develop the next generation of our product electrochemical materials using AI/machine learning methodologies.

* Bring cutting edge AI and machine learning methodologies to the wider Energy Materials team.

* Work with the CSO (Chief Scientific Office) to deliver all aspects of project architecture, from project launch to a successful, developed project.

Key Accountabilities:

* Technical lead role for AI technology projects, working in a multi-disciplinary, cross function project team providing AI expertise.

* Demonstrate leadership skills and be a leader on the pitch to take initiative for tackling AI based development challenges.

* Stay informed on the latest advancements for AI methodologies and bring them in-house.

* Work across the Energy Materials Team, and wider business, to upskill team members and deliver AI techniques as required.

* Communicate key information and recommendations to influence technical decisions.

* Present progress and timing against targets to the technical management and program management office.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

In addition to a high level of professionalism, experience of industry driven projects, and working in a multidisciplinary team, the following are required:


* Masters in Engineering, Maths or related field with cutting edge knowledge and expertise in AI and machine learning

* Some experience in application of AI in other fields like materials development, electrochemistry, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering or related

* Strong communication and influencing skills.

* Delivery focused approach: being able to use technical knowledge and tools to push the delivery of projects.

* Capable of working independently, safely, with a high level of dexterity and attention to detail

* Good communication skills for discussing and reporting results verbally and in writing to engineers and scientists


* Knowledge of materials in both high temperature and electrochemical applications.

Internal and External Relationships:

* Reporting directly into the Senior Team management as part of the Energy Materials Development team

* Close collaboration externally with universities and analytical laboratories/institutions and internally with the manufacturing engineering and cell manufacturing teams.

* Regular progress reporting to the technical management team and program management office.

* Working with external experts to develop knowledge and capability in technology, processes and methodologies
