The Caretaker is a key role within any School, is vital to the day to day running, reporting directly to the Site and Community Manager. The Business Manager has the strategic lead for the site working very closely with the Site Services Team.
This is a full time position, all year around, working 37 hours a week over 5 days - Monday to Friday. There is a requirement to work within a cover rota, on a Saturday, to respond to community lettings which attracts an additional payment.
The starting salary is £18,020 per annum. Part time working may be considered and in this situation the salary will be subject to pro rata.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Site Services Team to ensure that all aspects of the Site Services function operative effectively. Please note that while the job description for this position is substantial, not all of the tasks are carried out daily but allocated by the Site and Community Manager in line with our annual programme.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate previous experience and ‘DIY skills’ in order to identify, monitor and carry out minor repairs, maintenance and redecoration. There are many aspects to this role, as would be expected on a large multi-use site. Other duties will include:
- Lock and unlock the school and carry out security checks on the buildings
- Carry out and record statutory checks and help maintain Health and Safety records
- Maintenance of property and grounds to a high standard including liaising with contractors
- Monitor site stock
- Carry out DIY above and beyond the scope of a competent DIY person, completing more specialist work as required
- Willingness to attend training courses including Health and Safety
Manual work is a daily requirement and, therefore you will need to demonstrate knowledge of moving and handling procedures and be physically able to carry out the physical tasks of the role (e.g lifting, shifting, clearing snow etc). Previous experience is not necessary as training will be provided.
Excellent communication skills that allow effective communication with all levels of school staff, Governors, students, contractors and community users of the school is a requirement of the role.
