Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced civil engineer to be part of our team within their growing Peterborough office. The successful candidate will lead and support technical work for civil/structural engineering projects within a fluvial environment. They will report to a Senior Engineer and will manage the delivery of a range of engineering and environmental improvement projects, including options appraisal, concept design and detailed scheme design. The candidate will be responsible for mentoring and supervising junior staff and, dependant on experience, line management duties.

The work will involve a mixture of traditional consultancy appraisal and design as well as design and build work. Our client is looking for candidates with sound technical knowledge and motivation to work pro-actively with the construction teams in our collaborative framework with the Environment Agency.

Key competencies required for the role:

Our client is a client-focused organisation. Excellent report writing and effective communication skills are therefore essential to this role. Candidates should have a sound appreciation for engineering principles and good analytical skills for problem solving.

Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation are also considered key attributes.

A valid UK driving license is also required.

A degree (or equivalent) in civil and or structural engineering is essential. The applicant will ideally be close to or will have achieved professional membership of the ICE or IStructE and have proven post graduate experience.

Candidates should have experience of working in consultancy in the UK and for one of our main clients, the Environment Agency, would be advantageous. They should have a strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, geotechnical, hydraulic design and other aspects related to river and coastal flood risk management. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate experience of project or task management, achieving programme, controlling budgets, and delivering work to the required quality standards.
