Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Business Rates Officer to join Bradford Council's Revenues, Benefits and Payroll Service on an initial 3 month temporary assignment. This is a full time position, working 37 hours per week (Monday - Friday).
The Revenues & Benefits Service deals with the billing, collection and enforcement of Business Rates owed to the Council. This multi-functional role involves dealing with incoming post and telephone calls from businesses, sole traders, agents and property owners in relation to funds that are due.
Duties & Responsibilities will include:
* Ensuring that individual Business Rates accounts are administered, collected and enforces in accordance with relevant legislation and policy standards
* Determining the liability of individuals / organisations to pay Business Rates and making arrangements accordingly
* Authorising the write off of debt in accordance with Council standing orders
* Making arrangements for payment within given guidelines using available information
* Ensuring that any suspicions of irregular or fraudulent claims or accounts are referred to the Fraud Unit
* Ensuring effective liaison with members of the public, Business Rates payers and Benefits employees
Requirements:
* Previous experience of working within a Business Rates Team or similar
* Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the Council's Business Rates Policies and Strategies
* Ability to use a range of complex IT packages
