Job Summary
We are currently looking to recruit a Production Supervisor (Growing) to join our team at Agrial Fresh Farms in Colchester.
Salary: up to GBP26,000 per annum
Working pattern: Monday- Saturday, as per role requires
About Us
Agrial Fresh Farms is one of five UK sites who are owned by the French co-operative group, Agrial. Agrial has operations across 18 regions with 280 farming outlets and it's not just about lettuce!
All 5 UK sites operate under the name of Agrial Fresh Produce Limited and fall under Agrial's vegetable division. The business is more recognisable in the UK by its Florette salad brand and we are now one of the UK's leading producers in the industry. We have a recipe for success through our EPIC values and working together as one team.
Our Agrial Fresh Farms site is an Integrated farming operation based in Colchester, Essex. The salad farm provides baby leaf year-round to the UK, grown in polytunnels, and whole head and outdoor crops throughout the summer. The produce is supplied into our UK sites for processing and distribution.
Main Responsibilities
* To ensure that the growing teams are working within company guidelines and all hygiene and dress code rules in the field are being adhered to.
* Day to day supervision of the growing teams. Oversee the planting and irrigation operations and quality of all commercial crops.
* Affective communication with the Production and Operations Manager and the teams.
* To ensure all health & safety is adhered to as a matter of principle in line with all company policies.
* Ensure that the field planting/drilling operation are prepared in accordance with operational procedure as directed by the Production manager, including stock control of relevant materials.
* Essential machinery maintenance for all outdoor equipment.
* Check that all weekly and monthly start up sheets/ record sheets are complete and up to date, along with daily planting, irrigation and cultivation timesheets.
* Ensure staff are provided with the necessary equipment and PPE as required for their jobs.
* Liaise with the planting nursery as necessary to ensure timely delivery of all plants for the outdoor operation.
* Be aware of the varieties to be grown along with trials. Be an active participant in the season' review of these and their potential.
* Effective communication with the Harvest and Operations managers. Should you be covering for the Harvest Manager it will be part of your duties to include crop quality and forecast availability is prepared ahead as needed for the business.
* Aid the Production Manager keep growing costs within set plan as set out in budget.
* Achieve good control of productivity for the day to day planting, cultivation and irrigation operations, attempt to keep production as close to budget or better if possible.
* Liaison with the Agronomist as and when necessary.
* Ensure that all purchased plants meet the company's quality specification. Correct and up to date field maps using Gatekeeper and Trimble.
* Be part of the team that completes and enters details for all the outdoor crops planted and add onto the new database.
Skills and Experience Required
* Good understanding of Outdoor Whole head and Baby leaf crops.
* Excellent knowledge of cultivation techniques/soil management.
* Staff communication.
* Mechanical knowledge - BASSI and BASSI drill, Regero planter, Amazone sprayer and the triple row bed former.
* Irrigation application to al field crops' requirements.
* People management and general communication skills.
