About the role:
We are looking for a passionate and motivated individual from the low carbon energy sector with strong business development and consulting skills to join our Edinburgh or London office. The successful candidate will support our growth through developing proposals and delivering energy system projects that will deliver high quality and high impact advice to our UK and international clients.
Due to increasing activity and growth, we are recruiting for a Manager to support energy system-related business development, project delivery, modelling, analysis and thought leadership. We expect the key focuses to include energy flexibility market development, renewable energy grid integration, heat decarbonisation approaches, the emerging hydrogen sector and the associated business models across these areas both in the UK and internationally.

The Carbon Trust provides innovative advice to governments and businesses around the world to support the global transition to a low carbon economy. We work closely with decision makers and implementers in key institutions in the UK and across multiple emerging and developing countries on low-carbon finance, programmes, policy and technology.
Main duties and responsibilities:
• Drive business development including proactive sales and responding to competitive tenders, writing bids and proposals on energy system related topics• Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders and clients in the low carbon energy sector • Manage client projects of varying complexity, from inception through to completion, including:o Leading the problem-solving effort o Managing analysis, research and quality assuranceo Managing project teams, including the leading and QA of sub-contractors o Liaising with client contacts on day to day project matterso Managing project budgets and finances• Line-manage junior colleagues
Key skills we are looking for:
• Proven ability in developing successful bids in the low carbon energy sector across a range of private and/or public sector clients• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build client and partner relationships and influence stakeholders• Proven ability to manage small teams and in delivering high quality consulting projects in the low carbon energy sector• Excellent strategic problem-solving skills and solution development• Excellent project management and project delivery skills• Excellent communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to lead and run workshop sessions, present to small and large audiences and write high quality reports• Ability to work effectively in a complex team environment and to take initiative and deliver projects independently when required• Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint• Organised and efficient• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Qualifications and experience:
• Degree educated (at least 2:1 or equivalent) • Experience of leading strategic consulting projects in the low carbon energy sector (required)• Experience of business development, including proactive and responding to formal tender processes in the low carbon energy sector (required)• Experience of building and managing client relationships (required)• Experience of developing and winning new business (required)• Experience/Knowledge of systems models/systems approaches/or key topics relevant to energy system decarbonization, e.g. heat, transport, storage, flexibility (desirable)• Experience of designing or delivering innovation projects and programmes (desirable)
Understanding of and support for the Carbon Trust's mission is considered an essential pre-requisite for this role.
Salary & Benefits:
We offer a competitive salary and a performance based bonus. Our hours are 37.5 per week with 28 days paid holiday plus bank holidays and a generous pension scheme.
