Mae Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru yn bodoli i gefnogi a datblygu'r celfyddydau yng Nghymru. Mae'n gwneud hynny er budd pobl ledled Cymru ac i hyrwyddo celfyddydau Cymru yn rhyngwladol. Wedi'i sefydlu gan y Siarter Frenhinol, mae hefyd yn Gorff a Noddir gan Lywodraeth Cymru, yn ddosbarthwr y Loteri Genedlaethol ac yn Elusen gofrestredig.
 
Mae rôl y Prif Weithredwr yn cynnig cwmpas a chyfle arbennig. Mae golygfa gelf fywiog yng Nghymru y mae angen arweinyddiaeth weledigaethol a chydweithredol ar ei datblygiad. Mae’r Cyngor Celfyddydau wedi ymrwymo i brif ffrydio'r celfyddydau yng nghymdeithas Cymru trwy ymrwymiad i gynhwysiant amrywiol a thrwy bartneriaethau arloesol, rhagorol yn y sectorau addysg ac iechyd.
 
Y Prif Weithredwr yw uwch aelod o staff y Cyngor Celfyddydau. Maen nhw'n arwain yr Uwch Dîm Arwain (UDA) pum person, a'r pedwar aelod arall yn Gyfarwyddwyr. UDA yw prif gorff gwneud penderfyniadau gweithredol y Cyngor. Ei rôl yw llunio amcanion a blaenoriaethau cyffredinol y Cyngor Celfyddydau, ac arwain y gwaith o gyflawni polisi. Mae’r UDA hefyd yn gyfrifol am reoli cyllid y Cyngor Celfyddydau, ei adnoddau a'i bobl yn effeithiol, gan sicrhau bod busnes y Cyngor yn cael ei reoli mewn modd atebol a phriodol.
 
Ffocws cyfredol y rôl - ac un sy'n debygol o barhau hyd y gellir rhagweld - yw rheoli ymateb y Cyngor i Covid-19. Mae hyn yn golygu eirioli i Lywodraeth Cymru dros anghenion ariannol sector y celfyddydau ac arwain ymateb y Cyngor i anghenion goroesi ac adfer artistiaid a sefydliadau celfyddydol.
 
Mae hon yn rôl gyhoeddus proffil uchel sy'n gofyn am arbenigedd, awdurdod a gwytnwch. Rydym yn chwilio am gyfathrebwr effeithiol, sy'n gallu ymateb yn ddeinamig i'r heriau strategol sy'n wynebu’r Cyngor Celfyddydau a sector y celfyddydau, yn enwedig mewn perthynas â datblygu mwy o fynediad cyfartal i'r celfyddydau.
 
Bydd gan yr ymgeisydd llwyddiannus brofiad proffesiynol o weithredu ar lefel uwch reolwyr mewn amgylchedd sy'n gymhleth yn ariannol ac yn atebol i'r cyhoedd. Mae profiad o weithio yn y celfyddydau, diwydiannau creadigol neu'r sector diwylliannol yn hanfodol. Dylai ymgeiswyr fod yn gyfarwydd â chymhlethdodau a naws sut mae corff cyhoeddus yn trin ei berthynas â rhanddeiliaid allweddol, sef yr weinyddiaeth ddatganoledig yng Nghymru yn yr achos hwn. Bydd angen i'r ymgeisydd llwyddiannus ddangos ymwybyddiaeth o nodweddion unigryw cymdeithas Cymru, gan gynnwys ei diwylliant dwyieithog. Byddai'r gallu i siarad neu ddysgu siarad Cymraeg yn ased pwysig.

The Arts Council of Wales exists to support and develop the arts in Wales. It does so for the benefit of people throughout Wales and to promote Welsh arts internationally.  Established by Royal Charter, it is also a Welsh Government Sponsored Body, a National Lottery distributor and a registered Charity.
The Chief Executive role offers remarkable scope and opportunity. There is a vibrant arts scene in Wales whose development needs visionary and collaborative leadership. The Arts Council is committed to mainstreaming the arts in Welsh society through a commitment to diverse inclusion and through outstanding, cutting-edge partnerships in the education and health sectors.
 
The Chief Executive is the senior member of Arts Council staff.  They lead the five-person Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the four other members being Directors.  SLT is Council’s principal executive decision-making body. Its role is to shape the overall objectives and priorities of the Arts Council, and to lead the delivery of policy. SLT is also responsible for the effective management of the Arts Council’s finances, its resources and people, ensuring that Council’s business is being managed in an accountable and appropriate manner. 
 
A current focus of the role – and one that is likely to continue for the foreseeable future – is managing Council’s response to Covid-19.  This means advocating to the Welsh Government for the financial needs of the arts sector and leading Council’s response to the survival and recovery needs of artists and arts organisations.
 
This is a high-profile public role that demands expertise, authority and resilience.  We’re looking for an effective communicator, able to respond dynamically to the strategic challenges facing the Arts Council and the arts sector, especially in relation to developing greater equality of access to the arts.
 
The successful candidate will have professional experience of operating at a senior management level within a complex financial and publicly accountable environment.  Experience of working in the arts, creative industries or cultural sector is essential.  Candidates should be familiar with the complexities and nuances of how a public body handles its relationship with key stakeholders, which in this case is the devolved administration in Wales. The successful candidate will need to show an awareness of the distinctive features of Welsh society, including its bilingual culture.  The ability to speak or to learn to speak Welsh would be an important asset.
