We are looking for a Senior Cost Engineer to join the manufacturing department and support work with international suppliers.

Description

Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, the Senior Cost Engineer will lead the newly established cost engineering function and play a pivotal role in developing the processes and structure. The role will involve (but not be limited to):

Process

In conjunction with the Operations team, develop volume and commodity based price adjustment triggers
Create and implement valid models to estimate product and manufacturing costs based on material, design and labour with consideration to regulatory requirements
Create and implement return on investment (ROI) models to allow for quick assessment of opportunities (products & process)RFQ (Request for Quote) Process

Analyse quote submissions alongside key stakeholders - lead cost review and provide data and information to aid further negotiations
Actively participate in sourcing and supplier allocation activitiesNew Product Introduction

Estimation of product and non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs in early project stages
Creation of NRE budget and management of spend to budget
Support NPD teams with design to cost activities
Modelling of operating costs based on product spec (e.g. carton size impact on logistics)
Cost reviews in-line with budget / cost estimate models at each business gate - identification of risks and areas for optimisation alongside NPD and Operations teamsValue engineering (current manufacturing)

Generation of VE opportunities road map by product
ROI modelling
Support negotiation of cost benefit agreement with contract manufacturers (split of cost savings generated)
Management of VE activities from concept to cut-in alongside the relevant Product, Operations and Finance teams
Define purchase price variance (PPV) targets and manage progress alongside Finance and Operations teamsGeneral

Bench-marking supplier cost structures and review of cost change requests to ensure competitive pricing is achieved
Supporting asset management and reinvestment activitiesData Analysis

Ongoing review of purchasing, manufacturing and product quality data - identification of CI and cost opportunities
Ongoing review of global manufacturing and labour trends
Monitoring of raw material and commodity pricing - identification of cost saving & spot buy opportunities
Monitoring of regional labour ratesProfile

In this newly created role, we are looking for a passionate and inquisitive engineer with extensive experience in cost engineering. You will take the lead in all aspects of cost estimation and value engineering activity associated with products and manufacturing (product cost and NRE). You will be responsible for a broad remit in which you will support the respective product and operations teams from product concept (through cost estimation and design to cost), right through to current manufacturing (value engineering, commodity tracking and recurring cost reviews).

You will have experience of working with similar products of an electro-mechanical nature, with a particular focus on plastics, injection mold tooling and assembly.

What we need from you:

Experience & skills:
Proven ability to create cost models encompassing all key cost levers
Strong knowledge of estimating techniques and their applications
Advanced excel / Google sheets skills essential. Knowledge of cost estimation software advantageous.
Good grounding in electro-mechanical products and associated manufacturing processes
Global experience in a similar role highly desirable plus experience of working alongside global manufacturing partners across varying time zones and cultures
Proven ability to establish and/or scale cost engineering functions highly desirable.
Basic knowledge of medical device regulatory, product introduction and manufacturing requirements (FDA, certification, IQ, OQ, PQ / GMP etc)
Personal attributes:
An ability to set expectations and stay calm and positive under pressure
Commercially aware and financially focused
Strong organisational and analytical skills plus knowledge of associated software
Clear and concise communication at all business levels
Ideally, time with a start-up that has gone through the scaling process
