SCIENCE TECHNICIAN

Part-time, term-time only (39 weeks per year).

Hours: 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 3.30pm on Friday. Salary: £16,731.86 to £18,342.37 per annum (FTE £19,542 to £21,423 per annum). Progression is on an annual increment scale to £19,386.94 (£22,643 FTE) per annum

The College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and hardworking Science Technician to join the College’s Science Technician Team. The successful applicant will primarily work with the Physics department, but the ability to work with Biology and Chemistry would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be required to work with staff and students on the courses to support practical elements of learning in the labs, as well as maintain equipment and high standards of health and safety.

The post is available from January 2021 on a permanent, part-time, term-time only basis. The hours of work are from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 3.30pm on Friday.

Previous experience of working with teenagers is desirable, but not essential. The post holder will spend a significant amount of the working day interacting with students, so the ability to feel confident in the presence of and communicating with young adults is essential. The role requires experience of working with science apparatus and resources e.g. chemicals.

The post requires commitment and flexibility in the approach to work, with the ability to remain calm at all times. Occasional evening work is required for which time off in lieu will be given.
