The Regional Engineer (Buildings & Civil Engineering) will provide professional engineering leadership for Buildings & Civil Engineering within Regional functions, including: individual and functional capability; strategy; technical advice and guidance; safety, assurance, derogations and non-compliances.
Lead regional business planning for Buildings & Civil Engineering that delivers sustainable levels of asset integrity and performance to meet customer requirements and regional/national targets.
Provide a strong customer focus in a multi-disciplinary team, balancing the views of a range of senior stakeholders.

Role and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Provide professional leadership to the Buildings & Civils Principle Engineer Teams (Buildings, Geotechnical & Structures) to deliver the correct application of the appropriate legislation, group and company standards.
- Collaborate and align with the Route Buildings & Civil Engineering Asset Management function objectives in the provision of technical support and value-added level 2 assurance
- Lead and develop capability of engineers and others involved in managing Buildings & Civils
- Lead and direct the development of the Buildings & Civils technical/asset management strategy for the region, aligning it to network engineering and asset policy and standards and the regional performance strategy.
- Direct the scheduling of structural assessment of civils assets and the evaluation of the associated reports. Provide structural assessment advice/assurance to the Route Structures and Route Buildings Engineering teams to inform asset management decision making on structural assets and provide Level 1 assurance services.
- Provide consistent advice and guidance to the route engineers in the delivery of policy, standards and specifications and assure the delivery of technical briefings for staff engaged in Route Buildings & Civils Asset Management.
- Define and direct the Buildings & Civils assurance regime for asset safety, integrity and sustainability, including the verification of asset condition, to manage long-term business risk and optimise asset outcomes in line with regional and network policy. Advise the Regional Exec on the extent to which this is commensurate with the level of business performance the region requires.
- Lead the relationship and interfaces with the Technical Authority including provision of regional expertise to facilitate development of national policy, standards, sharing of best practice and lessons learned nationally.
- Review and approve derogations and non-compliances to standards in compliance with the delegated authority framework. Manage the response to applications outside own delegated authority.
- Lead the provision of continuous improvement to asset policies and standards; and provide feedback to the Technical Authority.
- Lead the assurance of asset specific elements of the regional business plan in line with regional and corporate strategy.
Are you?
- Master's Degree in a technical subject related to Buildings and/or Civil Engineering
- Registered Engineer at CEng level with the UK Engineering Council
- Proven experience of successfully managing a large complex and diverse Buildings & Civils interface, particularly related to renewals, enhancements and system integration
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant asset systems, engineering standards and process integrity
- Demonstrate strong customer focus in a multi-disciplinary team
- Proven experience of leading successful negotiations at a senior level and balancing the views of a range of stakeholders
- Proven knowledge of the strategic management of safety
- Proven ability to form collaborative relationships with stakeholders to achieve aligned outcomes.
- Fellow of Engineering/Technical Institution
- Proven experience in the management of engineering processes, assets and components
- Proven experience in the management/production of Structural Assessments for Buildings and Bridges
- Salary of GBP90,035 - GBP101,289 (Band 1.B) depending on skills, qualifications and experience
