About the job Summary
It is an exciting time for HM Land Registry as we continue to embark on a major transformation programme. HMLR's ambition is to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data.
We are now looking for Cloud Engineers (WebOps) and Senior Cloud Engineers (WebOps) to join our Digital, Data and Technology team to help us to achieve this.
You will join our award-winning Digital, Data and Technology Directorate which is the in-house IT division at the heart of the move to a digital, data-driven organisation with the ambition to provide our customers with cutting-edge digital services. You will be part of the IT Operations Practice, which is responsible for the performance and delivery of all technical infrastructure which underpins and supports the organisation.
HM Land Registry's existing software systems and services form part of the critical national infrastructure, safeguarding land and property ownership valued at £7 trillion. This enables over £1 trillion worth of personal and commercial lending to be secured against property across England and Wales.
Job description
EO Cloud Engineer (WebOps):
Within your role, you will work as part of a cross functional team to implement, operate and support the HM Land Registry web infrastructure supporting all our digital internal and external services using a mixture of cloud technologies, containerisations using Kubernetes and other open source components.
Duties will include providing technical support for IT Infrastructure and platforms, as part of a wider infrastructure engineering community. You will also assist in the planning and management of technical changes related to your IT Operations specialism. Additionally, you will be required to pro-actively support live services and take responsibility for the resolution of live incidents or escalation, as appropriate. You will take responsibility for assimilating and developing your own knowledge base, whilst keeping up to date with emerging technologies and sharing this across the wider infrastructure community.
Senior Cloud Engineer (WebOps):
You will work as part of a cross functional team to implement, operate and support the HM Land Registry web infrastructure, supporting all our digital internal and external services.
As well as providing technical support for IT Infrastructure and platforms; you will be expected to represent your specialism on relevant projects and programmes, providing advice and guidance to ensure services are developed in a supportable design. You will also plan and manage technical changes related to your IT Operations specialism and implement technology to ensure non-functional requirements and service levels can be achieved, engaging with other technical specialists where appropriate.
You will act as a technical role model and leader within the IT Operations Practice and associated areas, whilst sharing knowledge and experience in line with the continuous improvement agenda and to help build capability within the IT Operations Practice. In addition, you lead in supporting development teams deploy software on to linux based systems, using containerisation tooling Kubernetes and Openshift.
Responsibilities
EO Cloud Engineer (WebOps). To meet the requirements of this role, you will have:
· Experience of programming or scripting skills (e.g. Ansible, Bash, Python, PHP, Ruby, Java)
· Basic knowledge of using Linux operating systems with the ability to give an example of an action performed.
· Awareness and interest in working in a DevOps environment.
· Awareness of Cloud Hosting providers and the benefit they provide
· Evidence of high-level planning and managing technical change.
· Effective communication skills, including ability to interact and build working relation with engineers and other stakeholders.
· Technical information gathering, analysis and problem solving.
Senior Cloud Engineer (WebOps). To meet the requirements of this role, you have:
· Experience of working in a DevOps environment and using DevOps tooling.
· Experience of deploying to Cloud Hosting providers.
· Knowledge and experience of supporting Linux operating system.
· Experience of supporting production systems.
· Experience of Infrastructure as code and automation/orchestration technologies such as Ansible, Jenkins and Terraform
· Experience of scripting/programming skills (e.g. Python, PHP, Ruby, Java)
· Evidence of high-level planning and managing technical change.
· Effective communication skills, including ability to interact and build working relation with engineers and other stakeholders.
· Technical information gathering, analysis and problem solving.

Due to Covid-19, the role will initially be home based so an induction and training will be carried out remotely, with full support from the team. Once safe to do so, your home office will be located in the vibrant waterfront city of Plymouth.

Qualifications
· Holds a qualification in Information Technology or a related area (Degree Level or equivalent) and / or experience in an IT field.
