Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (LSA & Supply Support)


We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (LSA & Supply Support) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.


As a Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (LSA & Supply Support), you will be responsible for the development of the Supportability, Obsolescence and Disposal Strategies of the Active Vehicle Control Management System across the AVC "One Team" to meet the overall AVC programme requirements to schedule and quality.


This role will provide you with the opportunity of delivering core duties whilst undertaking continued professional development and undertaking succession planning.



Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (LSA & Supply Support) will involve:


Developing and managing a RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed) Matrix for Supportability across the "AVC One Team"


Ensuring the "AVC One Team" Plans and Processes are valid and available for the end to end Supportability Lifecycle


Interfacing with Integrated Logistic Support Teams to ensure the AVCM strategies support the Whole Boat Supportability Strategies


Developing a full understanding of the available Supportability Documentation Hierarchy, and how it drives the development of the AVCM System Supportability strategies


Interfacing with the Shore Integration Facility and Test & Commissioning Teams to ensure the Plans and Processes are valid and available to support the AVCM Supportability Strategy


Ensuring any AVCM Supportability Requirements are captured and fit for purpose


Providing the Supportability element during design and documentation reviews


Facilitating Workshops and Stakeholder engagement to assist in the development and maturation of the AVCM Supportability Strategies


Maintaining close liaison with key stakeholders

Ensuring technical activities are performed in accordance with engineering procedures and are compliant with the AVC Engineering Management Plan and associated subservient plans


Ensuring that safety management is applied in accordance with the Safety, Environmental and Legislative Management Plan


Appreciation of Supportability Processes; Maintainability Analysis Report (MAR), Level of Repair Analysis (LoRA), Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Training Needs Analysis (TNA)



Your skills and qualifications:

Demonstrable understanding of support engineering activities in accordance with defence & international standards such as DEFSTAN00600 and or ASDS3000L


Degree or equivalent (HND) and relevant experience in a STEM subject


Member of or working towards membership of IET/ IMECHe


Ideally a member of a professional qualification organisation or working towards


Application of support engineering principles within a defence environment


Knowledge and experience of working within complex engineering projects
