Tutors

We are looking for bright, enthusiastic and well-motivated people to work as paid Primary and Secondary tutors in Greater Manchester schools through The Tutor Trust, an education charity supporting young people in disadvantaged communities. You can tutor Primary Maths and English and Secondary English, Maths and Science. Work is available both in-person and online, and you will receive between £16-21 per hour to plan and deliver a tutoring session.

Who are we?
Tutor Trust is a not-for-profit charity; we aim to provide tutoring to young people from low-income backgrounds whose parents are unable to afford private tutors. We work with schools to offer subsidised, high-quality tutoring to these young people, working in partnership with their teachers to ensure the tutoring has the maximum impact. Schools pay us for our service and we in turn pay our tutors for the high-quality tutoring they provide, as well as providing tutors with full training and ongoing support.

Benefits of tutoring with us:

• Paid between £16- £21 to plan and deliver each hour of tutoring.
• You will work either 1:1 or in small groups will pupils. The maximum group size is 3 pupils.

• Work is available in person (delivered in schools) and online.
• You will receive around 10 hours of training which is a mix of self-learning through structured pathways and live interactive sessions online (Training is unpaid and if you are unable to attend you will need to wait for the following month’s live training to be eligible to apply for assignments with us).
• As you will be responsible for planning lessons, you will develop your leadership and time management skills as well as many other transferable skills which look great on CVs.
• Tutoring is a great way to develop your ability to present, communicate and build your confidence to make an impact which is invaluable for any career.
• We will carry out a DBS check, insure you and professionally support you throughout your time as a tutor.

What we’re looking for:

• A minimum of Grade B in GCSE English and Maths for primary tutoring.
• A minimum of Grade A at GCSE in the subject you wish to tutor in for secondary tutoring.
• At least three hours availability a week to deliver tutoring.
• Relevant voluntary and extra-curricular commitments e.g. university society, sports team or charity work.
• The ability to show humility, respect and be empathetic.
• Planning and organisational skills.
• Genuine enthusiasm for becoming a tutor and making a difference in the local community.
• No previous tutoring/teaching experience is required, and you do not need to have any existing teaching qualifications. (Please tell us on your application form if you do though!)

Please note that tuition takes place at set times every week and that while tutors can be flexible about what days and times they take on work, once they have committed to an assignment, they must be able to commit to working at a set time and day for the duration of a school term.

Please ensure you have the right to register as self-employed in the UK, and that you possess an EU passport or the relevant documents/tier of visa. We advise that anybody who is unsure on whether they are eligible to register as self-employed to check by calling HMRC before completing an application form. Successful candidates will need to complete an enhanced DBS check through Tutor Trust before they can take on assignments.
