Widely recognised as being at the forefront of the NHS, the trust introduced a new model of emergency care last summer, opening the country’s first purpose-built hospital dedicated to emergency care The Northumbria.

Alongside the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the trust runs general hospitals at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham and community hospitals at Alnwick, Berwick, Rothbury, Blyth, Morpeth and Haltwhistle and an outpatient centre at Wallsend.

It has a co-located consultant and midwifery-led Birthing Centre at The Northumbria with midwifery-led units for low-risk births at Alnwick, Berwick and Hexham hospitals.

Outside of hospitals, the trust’s community teams provide care from a variety of settings including GP practices and in people’s own homes, ensuring care is delivered close to where people live.

Rosemary Stephenson, executive director of nursing at Northumbria Healthcare, said: “This is an ideal time to join our trust and be part of an organisation which truly values our nurses and midwives and the vital role they play in delivering compassionate front-line care, is innovative and is leading the way.

“Not only have we opened the country’s first purpose-built hospital dedicated to emergency care, we have been held up nationally by health secretary Jeremy Hunt as an organisation providing the best standard of seven-day services in the NHS.

“We have also been named ‘Best Place to Work in the NHS’ – an fantastic honour which is testament to the hard work we’ve done over many years to involve our staff, empower them to continually strive to improve patient care, and create a culture where patients are at the heart of all that we do.

“We are extremely proud of our achievements and the exceptional care we deliver day-in day-out for our patients however, without doubt, we recognise that it’s our people who are the reason for our success.

“We have a number of opportunities for nurses and midwives to join us and help us deliver the highest standard of care for our patients. This may be in an emergency situation in our Northumbria hospital, on-going or planned care at our general or community hospitals or in the community caring for people following a spell in hospital or supporting them to avoid being admitted to hospital.

“We support our staff and have excellent opportunities for career progression and transition into specialist areas.

“We welcome the opportunity to show nurses and midwives our facilities and would encourage people to view our current vacancies on www.jobs.nhs.uk and get in touch to find out more.”

Northumbria Healthcare has opportunities in emergency care, elderly care, critical care, psychiatry of old age, orthopaedics, surgery, theatres, paediatrics, midwifery and community-based roles.
