So what is social care?

It’s about supporting people to maintain their independence, dignity and control.

It’s big business. In fact, there is around 1.55 million paid jobs in adult social care in England.

It’s getting bigger. Adult social care continues to grow and it’s projected that by 2030 there will be an extra 500,000 jobs available. It’s changing too. It has to in order to respond to what those who use the services want, and give them greater choice and control.

A career in social care offers long-term employment prospects, with opportunity for promotion and progression as well as job security.

And if you’re new to adult social care an Apprenticeship is a really good place to start!

As an apprentice, you’ll earn while you learn, gain nationally recognised qualifications and develop the skills and knowledge to become a confident and skilled care worker.

Skills for Care promotes careers in adult social care and works to ensure that England’s adult social care workforce has the skills to deliver high quality social care.

You could be working in a hospital, in a care home, out in the community or visiting people’s homes. When looking for the right opportunity, a good place to start is to visit the National Apprenticeship Service and check if there are any vacancies in your area – www.apprenticeshipvacancymatchingservice.lsc.gov.uk.

You could also go see your local careers advisor at the job centre and ask them about vacancies and Apprenticeships in adult social care.
