Overview

The Transport Manager (TM) is responsible for managing the transport and distribution operations by ensuring safe and timely transportation of equipment and materials between client locations, waste-disposal locations and/or company facilities. The responsibility includes Dangerous Goods Safety.

Responsible for providing strategic response to external influences, such as legislation, fuel costs and environmental pressures and the setting and delivery of excellent standards of service, efficiency and performance.

Responsible to the Health and Safety Manager for assisting in the implementation of, and adherence to, the Companys Health and Safety Policy and assisting in developing safety procedures and ensuring that established rules and safe working practices are observed. The TM will promote the development of a positive health and safety culture by providing a visible demonstration of their commitment and leading by example.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting:

Weekly overall report to the Managing Director
Weekly report to Director of Operation on operational issues
Ensure compliance with the documentation required for the Environmental permit
Ensure compliance with the documentation required for the Road Transport permit

Provide efficient management of the transport operations, the team of drivers and the fleet of vehicles.
Allocating and managing staff resources according to changing needs.
Being the first point of contact for all drivers.
Responsible for all of the dispatching, routing, and tracking of delivery vehicles.
Dispatching complex and hazardous goods to national destinations.
Monitoring the cost efficiency of the movement of goods and plan improvements.
Maintaining accurate administrative records.
Prepare the department budget and ensures that spending is kept within limits.
Ensuring and monitor company compliance of all transport policies, legislation and procedures.
Making sure that all transport fleet vehicles are properly maintained and serviced.
Provide advice to the undertaking on the transport of dangerous goods (DGSA)
Advising on the fit-for purpose when purchasing of transport vehicles.
Implement procedures for checking the equipment used in connection with the carriage, loading or unloading of dangerous goods.
Liaising with H&S for the implementation of proper emergency procedures in the event of any accident or incident.
The preparation of annual reports on the undertakings activities in the transport of dangerous goods.

Technical, Professional and Personal capabilities:

National CPC and a Clean HGV class I driver license is essential.
Potentially CILT, ILM level 4, DGSA and IOSH/NEBOSH qualified are desirable although training could be provided to attain these qualifications.
Experience in managing cost effective maintenance and servicing of a transport fleet.
Essential that you have knowledge regarding the transportation of hazardous waste.
Experience in managing a digital tacho graph system and AVL tracking systems.
Able to operate effectively in a transport operation.
Knowledgeable in all process compliance areas including; Legislative, Productivity, Quality and Service.
Full understanding of transport operational systems.
Strong communication and analytical skills.
Problem solving and prioritising skills.
Man management skills.

The ability to analyse data, problem solve and amend plans where necessary.
IT literate, well organised and a clear and concise communicator.
