Main Duties

Applicants should be able to provide evidence of successful Six Sigma project implementation within a manufacturing environment and will also possess a good working knowledge of modern systems and philosophies – including but not limited to: ISO9000, TQM, APQP, PPAP and Lean Manufacturing principles.

You will undertake investigation and reporting on both customer quality issues using 8D visual reporting and on internal quality issues during the assembly process. You will perform In process inspection, audits and data collection and CMM operation, with regular supplier and customer liaison required.

To be considered for this varied and challenging role, it is envisaged the successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of general engineering / machining / power press operations and be educated to at least ONC or equivalent. You will possess the ability to think laterally, whilst remaining calm under pressure and able to adopt a flexible approach to all aspects of the role. Good communication skills, particularly the ability to influence and persuade others and being fully computer literate with all Microsoft Office applications is also essential for the role.

Key responsibilities of Quality Engineer/Senior Inspector

•To maintain quality system documentation to meet internal Quality Management System requirements.

•To carry out internal audits against ISO 9001, ISO 16949 & AS9100, as applicable to site scope to verify system compliance and maintain current certification.

•To carry out Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities as required including preparation and compilation of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation (ISIRs, FAIRs, Process Control Plans, etc) as required by customers.

•To investigate root cause & report on non-conformance issues, liaising with engineering, manufacturing and customers to resolve identified in a timely manner.

•Liaising with customer SQA / STA engineers.

•Supporting with maintenance and calibration of measurement equipment, preparing calibration reports as required.

•To support development of processes, procedures, work instructions and forms in line with system and process improvement activities.

•To liaise with Engineering, Manufacturing and Inspection supporting them with project delivery and control in line with existing procedures.

•To support the project team with introduction of new projects into the business.

Ideal Experience required of a Quality Engineer/Senior Inspector

• Ideally the successful candidate will have recognised Engineering qualification (e.g. City and Guilds in Mechanical Engineering) or certificated Auditor (QBE).

• Ideally you will have at least 2 years’ experience within the automotive involving the implementation or maintenance of: ISO 9001, TS 16949, AS9100 & ISO14001 (appropriate training in specific standards will be given as required)

• Experience of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement projects will be advantageous

• Sound knowledge of engineering drawings & GD&T

• It is essential to have hands on experience in Quality Control and the use of CMM’s and associated measuring equipment.
