We are looking for a gardener with a real passion for plants and gardening to contribute to the maintenance and development of the 3 ½ acres gardens (lawns with herbaceous borders, topiary and vegetable gardens, stumpery and wildlife area) and grounds in to help ensure they look at their best all year round.

You will have at least three years’ full time experience of working in a private/public garden or similar setting, undertaking a wide range of horticultural duties. You may have worked as part of a larger team and are now ready to take on the responsibility of managing a garden.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be supported on the direction of the garden by a horticultural expert; you will also have the support of a part-time gardener/handyperson for day-to-day larger jobs.

You will hold a formal qualification in horticulture (at least NVQ 2 or equivalent) coupled with a good knowledge of plants.

You will be familiar with sit-on lawn mowers and able to effect minor repairs to garden equipment.

You will have a full, clean driving licence and your own transport as this job involves some work-related driving.

You will be well motivated, working well as part of a team but also able to use your own initiative to work unaided. You should also have good organisational skills and be able to prioritise.

As an experienced and qualified individual working alongside the Head Gardener and his team, you should possess excellent horticultural and landscape knowledge with an appreciation of working within listed conservation gardens. We are looking for a candidate with vision and energy who can contribute to the future redevelopment of specific areas of the estate.

Duties to include lawn care, planting, pruning, hedge cutting plus snow clearance and salting in winter, therefore it is essential that applicants are physically fit and able to work outdoors throughout the year and in all weathers. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent and PA1/PA6 pesticide qualifications are essential, as is proven use of gardening machinery. You must hold a full UK driving licence or, if provisional licence is held, you must obtain a full licence within six months of appointment.

They are currently recruiting for a Landscape Maintenance Foreperson to manage a team of up to two people and run prestigious domestic and commercial maintenance sites in the Herts, Bucks, Beds and North London regions to a high standard. The position is full time, although hours are seasonal with work on site between 8.00am - 4.30pm.

Applicants ideally will be passionate about gardening and must have good plant knowledge including plant identification, pruning, lawn care and pest and disease identification and treatment. You will also have proven leadership skills and excellent time management skills to ensure the day runs to their tight deadlines.

In addition you will need to be well presented and able to communicate effectively with customers and team mates alike. As part of your duties as a Foreperson you will be required to write up daily job sheets and administer their health and safety procedures, including site risk assessments, inductions in use of machinery and COSHH products.

A full driving licence is essential to the role and you will need to have your own transport to be able to get to their yard by 7.00am. A company transit van is provided for your daily tasks.

Relevant horticultural qualifications including PA1 PA6 safe use of pesticides certificates are desirable, but not essential, as training will be given to the right candidate.
