Construction Manager

A new position for a Construction Manager has arisen with our client based in the Hampshire area. Our client is a leading building envelope specialist and are seeking somebody who has some specialist sub-contractor or main contractor experience in a similar role.

You will be responsible for running a number of technically complex projects running in the South of England. You will be responsible for all elements of the projects, which are valued between £500,000 and £10 million.

The main duties will include:

* Build, manage and co-ordinate the project team
* Resource planning
* Attend client liaison meetings
* Ensure programmes and projects are completed to on time
* Ensuring labour costs are in line with estimation
* Ensuring Health & Safety

As a Senior Buyer you will be responsible for a team of full time staff to ensure that materials required for construction projects are provided to schedule and according to projected budgets. The buying department plays a vital role in the profitability of contracts.

Duties will include:

· Liaising with the Purchasing Manager
· Running the buying department and deputising for the Purchasing Manager during their absence
· Placing orders
· Suppliers meetings
· Overseeing global orders
· Attending contract co-ordination and handover meetings
· Finalising Supplier Performance Reviews
· Maintaining regular communication with all internal departments
· Settling supplier claims and disputes,
· Selection and interview of new staff for the department.

Ideally you will have a background in estimating or quantity surveying and hold a construction related HNC/HND or Degree. Previous experience with glazing and/or roofing contracts is desirable, though not essential.

The successful candidate will have at least three or four years experience as a buyer in the construction industry and be able to thrive and develop in a demanding role.

You will need a good commercial acumen together with the ability to negotiate and understand how jobs are run.

You will be a proactive and enthusiastic member of the team and have impeccable communication skills as this role will involve extensive communication with site personnel, client and suppliers.
