William Wake House is a centre for excellence for Male Service Users designed specifically for men aged 18 and older with services for Mental Health, Deaf, Aspergers, Learning Disability and Acquired Brain Injury. William Wake House is a Medium Secure environment, providing individualised treatment and care, utilising a person centred care planning process with all registered and non-registered clinicians expected to consistently deliver high levels of face to face contact with our Service Users.

As an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor you will have the opportunity to work with a highly motivated Occupational Therapy team. There will be opportunities to be involved in staff training and professional development as well as regular individual supervision from a Senior Occupational Therapist. The post holder will work on Fairbairn ward and will have the skills to communicate to at least BSL Level 1.

You will have a good understanding of Occupational Therapy and excellent communication skills. You will be able to demonstrate resilience and be a great team player. You will need to be able to work under pressure while still building and maintaining rapport with the service users. You will also have the confidence to lead Therapy groups under supervision and the flexibility to deliver these during some evenings and weekends. Contribution to therapeutic programmes will be expected and you will possess creative and practical skills in areas such as art and craft, cooking and gardening. Duties include planning and undertaking, as directed by the Occupational Therapist, both group and individual activities with service users to develop and enhance their skills in the areas of personal and domestic living tasks, work and leisure.

Principal Accountabilities:

To encourage and enable Service Users to achieve and maintain maximum independence by providing services laid out within their Personal Service Plan.
To assist with personal care. Duties will include assistance with washing, toileting, shaving, dental hygiene, bathing, dressing, eating. Also changing of incontinence products, maintenance of catheter equipment, emptying commodes, disposing of soiled items by appropriate method.
To assist with domestic duties. Duties will include cleaning, cooking and washing.
Provide general support to the Service User as part of a caring team, liaising with other services as necessary.
To contribute to a daily log of care. This will be kept at the Service User's home.
To contribute to a Service User's assessment and review processes, with a view to providing an objective evaluation of the individual's care needs, attending meetings and reviews as required.
To attend any training courses and activities considered appropriate to your appointment and which will assist you in carrying out your duties.
To feed back any concerns to your line manager about individual Service Users or any difficulties you may be having.
To work within Direct Health Group's policies, procedures, handbook and code of conduct including the CQC Essential Standards of Quality and Safety and Skills for Care Code of Conduct.
To fully participate in team meetings, supervisions, appraisals and other meetings set up to review your achievements.
To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time commensurate with the level of the post.
To participate in ensuring consistent standards of confidentiality are upheld.

A strong but diplomatic personality able to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, you will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage the fine detail of complex, time sensitive projects.

You must be an advanced AutoCAD 2D user, also ideally knowledge of Revit, and possess good all round PC skills, including Microsoft office. Your current or previous roles may include; Architectural Technician / Draughtsman, Design Coordinator, Assistant Design / Technical Coordinator, Estimator, Design & Build Coordinator, Project Coordinator, or similar.
