Job Description

The post holders will manage a caseload of patients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. They will participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services within a designated area, holding responsibility for defined projects as experience indicates.

The roles will contribute to implementing quality initiatives and quality assurance methods and work as an effective team member of the multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary teams. Pivotal to this role will be to work with patients and families to identify patient-centred goals as part of the overall care plan, using specialist OT neurological tools and functional assessments. Within rehab, Key Worker duties are an essential part of the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

To deliver and promote the Occupational Therapy Service on the neuro-rehabilitation unit and acute medical/surgical wards in conjunction with the Occupational Therapy Manager and Lead Occupational Therapists.

To provide comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments for each patient
To plan and implement OT intervention using a goal planning system within the interdisciplinary team
To maintain accurate and concise treatment records detailing treatment plans and progress
To ensure patients and carers are involved in the planning and delivery of their own care
Work closely with the interdisciplinary team in providing care/treatment according to the agreed care plan and patient centred goals
Identify individual training needs with the Lead Occupational Therapists to ensure high levels of professionalism and clinical skills
To participate in Saturday cover as required
Skills & Experience
Considerable experience of acute neurology including stroke and head injury rehabilitation.
Honours Degree in Occupational Therapy
HCPC registration
Extensive post-registration experience within occupational therapy in a relevant clinical setting, with a significant period of time within a neurological unit or department
Documented evidence of continuing professional development
Extensive experience in wheelchair assessment, posture and positioning of neuro patients.
Experience in providing teaching/training to colleagues.
