Purpose:

- To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children in the Nursery.

- To give support to other personnel within the Nursery.

- To implement the daily routine in the base room.

- To assist nursery assistants in developing their role.

- To guide and assist any students and bank staff.

Key Areas:

- Work with Children.

- Work as a team member.

- Liaise with Parents and other professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Operate a programme of activities for indoors and outdoors suitable to the age range of children in your care in conjunction with other staff.

- To record observations on your key children and other children should the need arise. Ongoing maintenance of children's learning journeys.

- Work with parents of special needs children to give full integration in the Nursery.

- Support other members of the team, and continue building team relationships.

- Liaise with and support parents / carers in offering the best standard of care for their child's individual needs.

- To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, Open days and resetting or restructuring the nursery.

- To be flexible within working practices of nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake domestic jobs within the Nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment.

- Work alongside the manager and staff team to adhere the policies and procedures are met, and the environment is safe for adults and children at all times.

- Recording accidents on the relevant form. Ensure the manager has read and signed the report before the parent receives it.

- Ensure collection procedure is followed at all times, to notify staff and manager should someone else be collecting other than the parent.

- To respect the confidentiality of information received.

- To develop your role within the team and willing to help and support team members where needed.

Specific Child Care Tasks:

- To participate in the weekly planning of activities for the children in and outdoors.

- To meet the specific needs of the children. Liaise with parents to ensure the best possible care for the children.

- The preparation and completion of activities to suit the child's age of development.

- To ensure that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.

- Providing comfort and complete relevant medical form to a poorly child.

- To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.

- To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times.
