An exciting opportunity is available for an Accounts Assistant to join one of the leading independent schools in the country, which attracts pupils from all over the world. Based in Harrow, Greater London, the successful Accounts Assistant will earn £20,000 - £25,000 depending on experience.

As an Accounts Assistant you will work in a busy accounts department consisting of the Director of Finance and Systems (DFS), who is a member of the Bursar’s Management Group, the Financial Controller and seven accounts staff. The job offers an excellent opportunity to obtain a wide experience of basic accounts work and would suit an applicant wanting to start or continue initial AAT training. The main responsibilities of the Accounts Assistant will include but is not limited to:

• Set up and manage supplier accounts
• Code, process and input supplier invoices and employee expenses
• Input payments into the online banking system, and process payment runs in and the online banking system to ensure all suppliers and employees are paid accurately and on time
• Maintain and file accounts payable records
• Regularly review aged creditors and invoices in process and take proactive steps to reduce these as required, resolving payment / processing queries efficiently and on time
• Manage incoming post and emails from the finance inbox
• Maintain regular contact with other departments to obtain and convey information
• Assist with month end procedures
• Maintain sales ledger for all non-fee items
• Provide additional analysis and reconciling of general ledger accounts
• Assume responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving (or properly referring) accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies
• Assist with other accounting matters such as fixed assets, prepayments and accruals
• Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required

The successful Accounts Assistant will ideally have previous experience in an accounts role although both internal and external training will be provided, where necessary. You will also possess the following skills and experience:

• A basic level of accounting knowledge is essential
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Word skills
• Knowledge and experience of internet banking
• Highly organised and focused, able to multi-task and manage workload
• High level of attention to detail with ability to produce accurate work
• A confident and customer-focussed team-player who enjoys working with people
• Ability to form positive working relationships
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Ability to work and make decisions autonomously, whilst recognising the importance of process & compliance
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills
• Ability to be discreet, with an understanding that confidentiality is essential

They are now recruiting for a Finance Assistant to work 22 hours per week with the potential to increase to 30. The successful candidate will receive £20-23000 PA (full time equivalent, so applied pro-rata) depending on experience.

As a Finance Assistant, your key responsibilities will be:

- Maintain client records
- Raising purchase orders
- Inputting Cost invoices using the existing Enterprise System (Paprika)
- To prepare weekly bank reconciliation's for all bank accounts
- You’ll be responsible for the processing of employee expenses.  This will involve; obtaining and checking claims, allocating them to the correct projects, ensuring that VAT and nominal codes are correct, getting sign offs and presenting them for payment.
- You will support the Project Managers and Account Managers by checking estimates on Paprika and ensuring that all projects are correctly invoiced
- You will be required to take on additional duties such as general administrative duties as required by your line manager, and be expected to support them during periods of absence

To be successful in the role of Finance Assistant, you will have excellent communication skills, be a fast learner with a can-do attitude and have a hands on approach to work. You will also be energetic, be willing to work in a team and have the following skills and qualifications:

- Experience of using Paprika (the accounting system) is desirable but not essential
- Minimum of a Finance related degree or an AAT qualification
- Purchase ledger and debtor collection experience
- Minimum of three years Book keeping experience
- Planning and organisational skills
- Proactively take on responsibilities
