A Trainee Accountant is required to join a UK employee owned business providing a high quality engineering capability within the marine environment.

You will assist the Finance Manager in a range of duties encompassing transaction processing & time portal management, finance and administration for the company. Participating in all areas of accounting and financial support for an ever changing portfolio of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

- Code and process expenses, ensuring reports are correctly authorised & have appropriate receipts attached
- Prepare and post BACS reports, weekly payment runs for personnel expenses
- Reconcile, manage, code and post company credit cards
- Reconcile and post petty cash across all offices
- Post payments through the cashbook
- Coding & input of sales ledger invoices, including logging into the invoice register, photocopying
- Manage bank accounts - administering advances and posting expenses
- Maintain fixed Asset Register (spreadsheet)
- Maintain fixed Asset Register back-up (paper file)
- Ensure that prepaid costs are correctly recorded in the accounts
- Provide cover for the Accounts Payable Co-ordinator during annual or sick leave
- Inputting purchase ledger invoices and reconciling payables
- Prepare and post BACS reports, weekly payment runs regarding overheads and suppliers
- Where necessary, assist the Finance Controller, Finance Manager and Management Accountant

Applicants must have some of working in a small/medium sized Finance department. Ideally this will have been in an engineering or project centred environment.

The desired skill set is:-

- Part qualified ACCA or CIMA
- Degree qualified or NVQ educated to a similar standard
- Must be proficient in use of Excel and ideally will have experience of finance software packages such as Opera or Sage
- Excellent communications skills as you will be liaising with non-Finance staff
- A proactive, can-do attitude
- Ability to work at pace
- Attention to detail
