Role: Working in our small Software Team, creating, developing, writing and testing robust and quality code for a wide range of our embedded software products.

Job description: This position works within an exceptional team of software engineers to deliver embedded firmware implementations of video processing algorithms. Firmware is targeted at multiple platforms, typically controlling Apical’s ISP blocks found in SoCs and FPGA implementations used in digital cameras and mobile platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for hardware bring-up, integrating new image sensors into the video pipeline. Occasionally they may need to support customers with demonstration systems and integration advice where a constructive, responsive communication style is required. Validation of firmware and algorithms will be an important part of the role, and they will be supporting our Image Quality team with test releases, automation scripts and calibration.

Skills Required:
• C/ASM
• Hardware interfaces (eg. uart, i2c, spi)
• Python
• Image processing algorithms
• Minimum first degree at 2:1 or above in a relevant technical subject. Master’s or doctorate preferred

Experience Required: Previous commercial development experience is essential, with a preference for experience within image processing. This position would not suit someone with a pure research background.

• Sensors bring-up, able to demonstrate a strong understanding of software and hardware integration in embedded systems
• Strong preference for experience within camera development – 3A algorithms (auto exposure, auto focus and auto white balance)
• RTL development and verification
• Development for different DSP
• Familiar with coding for “bare metal” and within OS
• Experience using ARM based platforms is preferred

Other Requirements:
• This position is within a small team so the successful candidate must be able to work well with colleagues and possess good communication skills.
• The candidate must be highly motivated, keen to make a real contribution to the development of our range of IP and software products
