MAPPA stands for Multi - Agency Public Protection Arrangements. In 2000 the Government introduced MAPPA to assess and manage offenders deemed to pose a potential risk to the Public. Criminal Justice and other agencies are all represented on MAPPA to meet this objective.

Are you interested in undertaking the challenging and vital role in becoming one of the lay advisers in your local MAPPA?

Lay advisers are members of the public who, by reflecting the views of the community, play a crucial role in MAPPA processes and express these views by attending MAPPA Strategic Management Board meetings (SMB), MAPP meetings where risk management plans are devised, and the sub groups designed to take forward the priorities of the SMB. Meetings of the SMB and the sub groups will be held at least quarterly. You should be able to provide up to 8 hours a month to the role.

No formal qualifications are required - just strong interpersonal skills, a balanced and objective approach and a genuine interest in making a contribution to public safety and public protection. You will need the time to attend the meetings within the MAPPA area as described above and be capable of, and responsible in, dealing with sensitive and complex information.

This is a voluntary unpaid post, but expenses will be paid and full training will be given.

Certain professions from related disciplines will be excluded from applying to this post and the appointment will be subject to vetting checks.
