Full time

This organisation is spinning a new company and a new product out of a system they built for internal company use, and they are looking for an ambitious mid-level web developer to help them move faster. You’ll be working with an experienced team of designers, front-end developers, and back-end developers, and will be the first of a number of new hires into a team that is ex-Atlassian and various London media companies.

They are not really fans of the whole front-end versus back-end developer thing, but the most important skill-set they need right now is: someone who can build REST+JSON business services in Java, talking to a MySQL database. Major bonus points for being comfortable in HTML/CSS/jQuery, and for having strong opinions about how things should be done.

They are agile. They release, test and iterate often. They are an up-and-coming business with enormous potential. The work environment is very relaxed, but they work hard to achieve great results. This position is based in their offices in Paddington, London.

Skills & Requirements

Responsibilities:

- Write testable maintainable server code.
- Integrate front-end prototypes and production code.
- Work with the senior developers, designers, and everyone else to refine specs.
- Take responsibility for delivering features from wooly specification to solid production.
- Take responsibility for releasing, upgrading, testing support and technical production support.

Required Skills:

- Experience writing Java server-side.
- Demonstrated ability to ship code.
- Basic HTML+CSS+jQuery skills.

Preferred Skills:

- Decent knowledge of HTML+CSS+jQuery.
- Experience building real-world REST APIs.
- Understanding of TDD, CI, DevOps, and other such buzzwords.
- Good front-end skills, and an opinion on AngularJS vs Backbone.

About The Organisation:

Featured in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 two years in a row, they are a progressive company that builds software for payroll and related industries. Their small development team prides itself on creating truly unique software.
