Last summer, sixty flagship Coronation Meadows were announced as part of the celebration for the Queen’s 60th Jubilee. As part of this new project, our client is now recruiting a project officer who will work with them across the British Isles in conjunction with local land owners and managers to restore or create 300 hectares of flower-rich meadows across 60 sites.

In addition to the on-ground practical work there will also be a programme of volunteer training, survey and work parties. The project will also provide training and advice to land managers along with a national Coronation Meadows workshop that will bring together all those involved with the initiative to share best practice and celebrate what will surely be a great success.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a related subject and have relevant experience including botanical surveying to Phase 2 level. Specific experience of restoring and creating flowering hay meadows and a detailed knowledge of hay meadows, hay meadow species and their management requirements are essential. The post holder should also have a broad understanding of other habitats and species.

Familiarity with RECORDER 2000 data base and GIS software (preferably MapInfo) is highly desirable, as is knowledge of agri-environment schemes and agricultural systems. You will be self-motivated and able to communicate clearly and concisely to a wide audience both verbally and in writing. Previous experience of partnership working especially with landowners/farmers and managing volunteers is highly desirable.

The post holder will be based at offices in Kendal (Cumbria) but working throughout the north of England, Midlands, Wales and Ulster. A full, clean driving license is required as it will be necessary to undertake a considerable amount of travel as part of the job. This will often be to areas that may not be accessible by public transport and may include overnight stays.

Our client provides effective offender management through the assessment of need and the delivery of proven interventions to reduce re-offending and the risk of harm to the public.

This role involves supervising offenders subject to Community Orders on project work sites and imparting practical skills and knowledge. Therefore a qualification or proven ability in gardening, construction, decorating or a related area is essential as is a knowledge of health and safety issues. A current First Aid certificate would be an advantage. You will need to demonstrate good communication skills, an ability to maintain accurate records, an ability to work with offenders with challenging behaviour and multiple problems, and possess a high level of initiative and personal commitment.

From 1st June 2014 this post will transfer to Cumbria and Lancashire CRC (Community Rehabilitation Company).
