Our client owns well established brands in connectors, precision instrumentation and monitoring /control and has ambitious plans for new product development and global sales expansion.

The System Engineer will work within the Technology Group and will be responsible for providing mechanical design resource to their brands.

These design activities fall into several areas:

• Mechanical system architecture
• Tolerance analysis and allocation
• Prototype validation
• Introducing new products to manufacturing
• Product testing and approvals

You will be required to design the mechanical aspects of multiple products and projects including system modelling, identifying the critical parameters and allocating tolerances. You will create the appropriate control documentation and identify SPC and control parameters for new products.

Degree qualified, or with equivalent experience in a relevant mechanical discipline, you will have previous system engineering knowledge including requirement flow-down and critical parameter management. You will have experience of new product introduction within electrical / electronic and / or mechanical industries have ideally had exposure to plastic moulding, however, this is not essential.

It is essential that you have experience in CAD packages such as SolidWorks and / or ProE and you will have previously had experience of Design of Experiments (DOE) and their application.

There will be an expectation of some regular UK travel with occasional foreign travel therefore it is essential that you have a full driving licence and current passport.

Our clients engineers work with High Performance Super Computer Clusters and local server systems to process the vast amounts of audio data they collect to create their sound recognition systems. This data comes from many sources including regular recording campaigns where they break every type of glass, fire lots of guns, encourage people to get aggressive into a microphone and lots more.

Our client are looking for people who thrive as part of a dedicated and innovative team, love tough challenges, and are passionate about audio/sound.


Responsibilities
* As part of our engineering team, you will contribute to the design, development and usage of the products and tools which implement our unique sound recognition systems.
* Responsibilities include managing the training process of sound recognition systems based on machine learning methods.

Technical Skills
* Must have experience, at least 2 years commercial experience or a masters/PhD in a related subject.

Required:
* Software engineering & embedded systems (ARM)
* C/C++ coding and code optimisation
* Interest in Machine Learning
* Notions of applied maths (linear algebra, statistics)
* Scripting: perl, bash, python
* Development under Linux/Unix mandatory, Windows optional

Desirable:
* Hardware design knowledge a plus but not a requirement.
* Open source experience a plus but not a requirement.
* Interest in audio signal processing (electronic music, studio recording, digital audio effects, production of general sound effects, sampling) a plus but not a requirement.

Summary of Tasks and Responsibilities

* Owning and completing complex technical tasks

* Act as a technical resource for projects delivery
* Mentoring and supporting junior engineers

Candidate Profile
