Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Independent living officer on a 3 months contract with a possibility of an extension.

Purpose of the role -To provide support and specialist knowledge to the service area

Duties/Responsibilities-

* Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to the public and to partners

* Manage a caseload of vulnerable tenants, carrying out home visits and making additional calls as a situation merit. Investigate, liaise and identify appropriate services, recording and providing monitoring information on support outcomes. Reviewing cases as necessary.

* Possess strong IT skills with an ability to produce spread sheets

* Facilitate repairs via appropriate staff, advising residents on care, maintenance and fire safety. Provide Housing Benefit and welfare advice, assist with income maximisation, financial awareness, budgeting and supporting rent recovery.

* Understand and maintain knowledge of community care and mental health legislation. Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and Councils policy and procedures.

* Must be willing and able to travel to all properties managed by the client, including Wickford, Billericay and Epping.

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications/Experience-

* Experience of working in voluntary or public housing service.

* Experience of carrying out risk assessments, writing support plans and protecting vulnerable adults and children.

* Experience of giving complex advice on a range of issues face to face to the public.

* Experience of coordinating resources and services to assist vulnerable residents.

* Experience of having worked effectively under pressure, taken responsibility for making significant decisions and organising and prioritizing own workload.

* Experience of liaising and negotiating effectively with other sections/organizations.

* Experience of supporting residents claim welfare benefits, apply for backdating claims, sourcing charitable funding for tenancy resettlement and devising household budget plans.

* Experience of delivering resident involvement to increase tenant participation.

* Experience of fire safety awareness and giving fire safety advice.

* Understanding of Housing Management and Neighbourhood Management issues

* At least one year's experience of directly delivering parenting programmes, family support or housing related support package

* A good awareness of the Occupational Therapy role and organisation of partner agencies such as health, housing and the voluntary and community sector to advise and support customers

* Innovate and create to support disabled people's independence, resilience, housing or care needs.
