As Mechanical Engineer you’ll support on delivering mechanical engineering projects across the Galloway Hydro Scheme. You’ll support the design and roll out of inspection and monitoring plans focusing on long term asset integrity across mechanical plant and systems.
Day to day you’ll be responsible for things like, lead on smaller projects and supporting on larger projects, writing technical specifications, support on planned and unplanned maintenance, help manage the site LOLER, PUWER and PSSR compliance, carry out audits, act as a competent person, nominated supervisor, contract officer or work sponsor, and support in rolling out new processes, systems and ways of working to your colleagues on site.
You’ll be joining small and tight knit team who work on one of the most interesting hydro power schemes in the world but who are part of a larger group with a wide support network. Drax Group recently purchased Galloway Hydros, along with several other sites across the UK, from Scottish Power. You’ll need to have experience in solving problems, managing projects, coming up with solutions, and being a strong communicator to be able to persuade and influence people to your way of thinking. You’ll need a strong technical grounding and have an HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering, and be able to work in a variety of environments. You’ll be both office based and plant based in this role and will need to be able to work at heights, in confined spaces and near water courses.
