We are working with an ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need.

We are currently recruiting for a Youth Facilitator based in Ipswich. This is a part time, fixed term contract until March 2020.

Drawing on your own experiences, you will provide a support service to year 7 and 8 pupils at secondary school to raise awareness of the risks associated with knife crime and violence. You will deliver structured sessions on knife crime, gangs, drugs and other issues to young people. Working alongside, schools, teachers and mentors, you will help identify those children at risk of youth violence and proved 1-2-1 support to those children.

Role responsibilities

•To deliver education and awareness sessions in schools, aimed at secondary aged children and teachers around the dangers and risk associated with knife crime and violence.

•To work alongside the teachers and schools to identify those individuals who have been involved in or are at risk of being involved in youth violence or gang related activity.

•To engage the individual in 1:1 sessions, supporting them to make informed choices and increase their awareness of the consequences of criminality.

•Assign mentors to work with individuals to provide additional support.

•Liaison with professionals from the Local Authority to identify key areas in Suffolk where there has been an increase in the amount of reported violent incidences so to enable us to target the right areas.

•Provide mentors with support to ensure their needs and the needs of the clients are being met in line with project guidelines

The person & qualifications

•Lived experience of the Criminal Justice System

•Experience of delivering/facilitating sessions to groups - especially socially excluded young people - and providing them with support, advice and advocacy.

•Experience of providing 1-2-1 mentoring support to vulnerable young people at risk of exploitation.

•Knowledge of gangs, county lines drug-smuggling, knife crime and patterns of offending in certain areas, the ability to recognise signs of child sexual exploitation and an understanding of and commitment to safeguarding practices and policies.

•Strong IT skills and the ability to utilise monitoring systems to record all aspects of a project, including actions, outcomes and referrals

Although this role is based in Ipswich, we welcome applications from candidates based in London. Travel will be covered in addition to salary. (London applicants only)
