Location: Exeter
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £18,500 to £23,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, Criminal Justice Recovery Navigators provide support to individuals involved in the criminal justice system and those that are at risk of becoming involved with the criminal justice system and possible prosecution. The post holder will improve access to appropriate services for clients with substance misuse issues via HM prisons, Police Custody Suites, HM Courts, assertive outreach and local community.
Criminal Justice Recovery Navigators ensure seamless transfers between prison and the community, working closely with street homeless outreach teams and the Police/Community Safety Teams to provide an integrated service through the provision of comprehensive and ongoing assessment, recovery planning, risk management, appropriate referral/linkage and psychosocial interventions. A key component of this role is the development of effective joint working patterns with agencies such as NPS and CRC in order to ensure continuity of care, key working, access to appropriate services and a holistic treatment package.
Day to day duties will involve delivering a range of interventions, including assessments for DRR/ATR, key-working, strengths based assessment, recovery planning, risk management, structured group and 1:1 work. A significant proportion of the case load will be managed in partnership with a prescribing nurse or GP who you’ll collaborate with closely in order to provide the safest person-centred treatment experience.
As a Criminal Justice Recovery Navigator, you’ll be responsible for working with and motivating service users to engage in the recovery programmes we offer in Devon, as well as become involved in the communities they live in so that they connect with others and feel purposeful in everyday living.
What the organisation is looking for
Ideally, you will already have experience of working in a similar field, including undertaking assessments and delivering a range of evidence based substance misuse psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group-work settings. You’ll have a good understanding of group working, group dynamics, and will be able to demonstrate competent group work facilitation skills. You’ll be comfortable dealing with the emotional content of sessions and constructively challenging the behaviours you see. Some knowledge and understanding of criminal justice and mental health issues would be helpful.
In addition, you’ll be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and time management skills and will be confident in managing your own priorities and dealing with competing demands. You’ll have at least five GCSE’s (or equivalent) and will either hold, or be willing to undertake, a Vocational Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care. A further qualification in a relevant area such as Nursing, Health and Social Care, Community Development or Psychology, whilst not essential, would be an advantage.
Just as importantly, you’ll have a genuine interest in the understanding of substance misuse problems and a positive recovery focused attitude. You’ll be keen to develop professionally through our client's training programmes and will demonstrate a high level of integrity and enthusiasm for the role.
