This is a key role within the journals Content and Communications team. Its primary purpose is to provide leadership to the Community Relations team who are responsible for managing and delivering an outstanding experience for the researcher, society and library communities. The role will also support the Marketing Director for Content and Communications and the Associate Communications Director in reputation management and engagement activities with a wide range of stakeholders, including policy makers.
Key tasks:
- Directly line managing a team of talented and engaged Community Relations Managers
- Preparing communications plans in line with business and community needs
- Devising, managing and delivering a customer experience programme under the direction of the Associate Communications Director
- Planning a proactive PR and thought leadership strategy that tells a positive story of the role of scholarly publishers in the research communication cycle
- Monitoring our brand in the market and being aware of competitor activity
- Providing support to the Director of Marketing for Content and Communications and the Associate Communications Director in identifying, tracking and responding to potential and current reputational threats to the organisation
Skills and Experience:
- Line management experience
- Planning effectively and guiding others
- Communications professional with 5+ years' experience and a strong track record of external communications either within a business or agency-side
- Understanding of international media relations, issue communications and government relations
- Ability to deliver a thought-leadership programme across multiple channels
- Understanding of Customer Experience methodology
- Proven track record of navigating challenging communications issues, including briefing and coaching senior members of staff
- Excellent copywriting skills
- Positive, proactive and results oriented
