Job Introduction

We are looking to appoint a Live News Reporter to join the award-winning Hull Live team.

We are looking for a talented reporter who can produce stories in words, pictures, video and sound that engage Hull Live's target audiences. This role is multi-functional and flexible, requiring reporters to cover live stories, develop their own unique communities of interest - or 'patches' - find exclusives and be flexible enough to turn their hand to news, sport and leisure stories.

Hull Live is one of the biggest regional news websites in the country, with millions of people engaging with our content every month, and we have a huge following on social media.

We operate a modern newsroom and we require every member of the team to be audience-focused and flexible. Live stories are at the heart of the operation and, as such, team members will need to have a flexible approach to working patterns and content.

We are Reach because it's what we do.

Every day our newsbrands - national and regional, in print and online - reach millions of people up and down the country. We are the UK's largest news publisher, with influential national newsbrands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, and more than 100 distinguished regional titles.

Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.

Last year we sold 540 million newspapers, and our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, viewed by 110m unique browsers every month.

Key Responsibilities

The key feature to this role is to source, write and share high-quality, original stories, pictures and video for website, app and social media platforms, as directed by the content desk.

You will have full ownership of a 'patch' - a community of interest, a place or an issue - is now central to every writer's role. You will work hard in developing and nurturing an audience of scale around this patch, and create content that drives improving levels of engagement.

Working patterns

The smooth working of Hull Live is driven from a carefully constructed rota that is designed to allocate cover for the right roles and the right times of the day, evening and weekends. To ensure a fair distribution of shifts between the whole team, your role will involve some early, late and weekend working.
