This role would suit someone who is an Italy travel specialist, with a real passion for Italy or alternatively, you may be a travel consultant covering other areas in the world but have personally travelled to Italy, particularly Sicily, Rome and the Bay of Naples areas and have a real passion for the area.
Also, as this role is dealing with schools and students, if you are a teacher looking for a career change and have knowledge and a real interest in Italy, this could be a perfect role for you too.
Role Outline
As a Travel Specialist you will be responsible for handling school enquires over the telephone and via e-mail, whilst dealing with the administration of your bookings. Initially you are likely to specialise in their Italy product, with the prospect of taking on other destinations in parallel or at a later date.
This job description is designed to give you an understanding of what is expected from you in this role as well as how the position relates to the rest of the company.
1. Duties and Responsibilities
Working with teachers to ensure their pupils get the full benefit of educational travel and the opportunity to learn outside the classroom.
* Field a wide range of enquiries over the telephone, email and occasionally face to face.
* Aim to achieve maximum revenue where possible for each booking by proactively up selling products such as optional activities.
* Provide expert destination and subject matter advice and general guidance to customers to assist them with their booking.
* The opportunity to play a key role in driving the growth of our Italy product (subject to experience)
* Writing and replying to various types of correspondence.
* Maintain an excellent degree of knowledge on the regions and products you are selling.
* Progressing and administering enquiries from quote to confirmed booking on the reservations system, ensuring the customer is fully informed and supported throughout the booking process
* Achieve and aim to exceed departmental sales targets.
* Regular quote follow-ups to help maximize conversion rates and to assist with feedback in relation to the non-conversion of bookings.
* Ability to tailor-make, advise and plan bespoke itineraries to a specific destination(s).
* Opportunity to deliver sales / information presentations in schools, often out of office hours
* Production of accurate quotes, booking confirmations and invoices.
* Have involvement with the training of new staff as necessary.
* Keep the marketing team updated and informed of all useful customer comments, developments from suppliers and any changes or new additions to product
* Provide cover on the emergency phone roster (approx. 3-4 times a year)
General
Join in meetings and product training sessions if required
Ensure that you are aware of the Company's sales direction and targets and that you contribute where possible to fulfilling department/company sales targets
Work and liaise with other staff within your own team and across other departments
Assist other teams/departments if required
Attend staff appraisals and reviews identifying training and development needs
Awareness of company/departmental sales and marketing strategies
Maintain extremely high standards of customer service and attention to detail throughout the entire booking process
Maintain and where necessary improve your skills and attend relevant training
Willingness to offer ideas that will aid the growth of a dynamic and ambitious department
1. Person Specification
Essential
Preferable
At least two years proven track record of sales and operations in a similar role and/or experience of working as a geography / humanities teacher.
High degree of flexibility and ability to deal with change, growth and pressurised deadlines.
Attention to detail and the ability to work accurately; good level of numeracy and excellent spoken and written English.
Strong customer service, influencing and negotiating skills.
Competent use of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. General competence in IT, with an ability to understand and navigate systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to develop relationships at all levels.
Knowledge of and a passion for Italy.
