NAYR Recruitment are currently looking for an Electronics & Software Design Engineer to join a world class electronics manufacturer based in Southampton.

Working on a permanent staff basis, the Electronics & Software Design Engineer will be required to undertake the design, development and prototyping of new products to agreed specification and within agreed timescales and costs.General Responsibilities for the Electronics & Software Design Engineer will include, but not be limited to:

* Design and development, prototyping and performance testing of new products

* Completion of activities within agreed timescales and costs

* Adherence to Company Systems and procedures

* Engineering support to all aspects of Company operations as necessary

The Electronics & Software Design Engineer will be required to undertake the following tasks:

* To undertake the design, development, prototyping and performance testing of new products to agreed specification. Focus will primarily be on electronic and software design but also includes interaction with Product Design for mechanical interfaces to product packaging e.g. metal, plastic enclosures.

* Generation of all necessary design support documentation including design calculations, circuit diagrams, materials lists, test procedures and specification of components to meet functional, production and economic performance targets.

* Generation of all necessary pre-production documentation including; Design log books, GA drawings where necessary, BOMs, manufacturing instructions, test documentation.

* To provide design support to existing product designs as necessary for mid-life product enhancements.

* To follow formal company systems and procedures related to all activities including design controls, document controls, and product management controls.

* To ensure all activities are completed within agreed timescales and costs and if not then to ensure that the Project Manager is aware of any adverse deviation.

* Actively propose ideas for use of new technology and new product features relevant to products and markets.

* To ensure the correct use of design tools and equipment as part of their project activities including ensuring such equipment is adequate for the task, has a valid calibration certificate (where necessary and appropriate) and is in good working order.

* To take positive steps to keep up-to-date with developments and changes in technology, legislation, industry practice and related drivers that have a bearing on the design, use, manufacture and support of Company products.

* To ensure that all product design, performance, and manufacturing cost information is maintained confidential to the Company.

* To provide technical support to Marketing and Sales activities as necessary

* To provide engineering skills to Production, Purchasing, sub-contractors and suppliers as necessary for the benefit of the Company.

Applications are welcomed for the Electronics & Software Design Engineer role from applicants who meet the following criteria:

* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering or similar

* Broad hardware (analogue and digital) electronic engineering design skills

* Broad knowledge of the design requirements for embedded systems development

* PCB layout (preferably using PADS, Altium or Solidworks PCB)

* Understanding of EMC testing and requirements

Whilst not essential to fulfill the role of Electronics & Software Design Engineer, the following skills / experience would be desirable:

* Proficient understanding of EN 54-4

* Good understanding of EN 50131

* Familiarity with ST Micro

* Familiarity with AT command language

* Strong communication and teamwork skills

* Analytical and conceptual capability

* Strong project management skills

* Proficient understanding of general safety standards to meet CE directives

* Proficient understanding of general EMC standards to meet CE directives

* Knowledge of switch mode PSU design
