The Role
The Infrastructure, Mining and Commodities (IMC) team is seeking to recruit a Bids Writer to lead and co-ordinate transactional bid activity within the team. As a major global practice, we respond to a large number of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and we have an impressive record which we are committed to sustaining and continually improving. It will be the responsibility of the Bids Writer to help ensure that the IMC practice maintains and excels upon its solid track record of delivering world class legal advice to clients.
The position reports into the IMC BD Manager in London and will also have a dotted reporting line to the Head of Transactional Bids. The Bids Writer will also work alongside the IMC BD Executive and other central BD functions such as the Transactional & Strategic Bids teams and the Brand and Design teams.

Duties & Responsibilities
Reviewing, analysing and pre-qualifying submission requests
Scoping bids in conjunction with fee earners including challenging the status quo about approaches to bid responses
Contributing to documents by questioning others against the client objectives
Writing and developing content for tender responses which are bespoke to the submission request
Ensuring all documents are free from errors and professionally representative of our global brand
Drafting, editing and proofing quality submissions which improve our conversion ratio from submission to success
Providing technical support, ensuring the layout of the documents is correct and to a high standard including adapting presentation formats, and liaising with the brand and design team where appropriate
Liaising with key personnel and external clients to ensure a seamless approach to bid management
Setting and achieving tender deadlines by managing input from key stakeholders
Minimising the impact of change on the bid process by building in contingencies
Ensuring all stakeholders receive regular updates and feedback and advance notice of upcoming bid related activity
Keeping up to date with our prospects and competition to ensure responses are bespoke and deliver our strategy clearly
Working with the IMC team to prepare and produce bespoke credentials and other client development presentations
Developing and data banking precedent text for the IMC bids
Managing and updating IMC bids databases including the assumptions database, and the directories/awards library
Managing the production and updating of practice experience statements and credentials materials
Acting as an ambassador for bids best practice within the IMC team
Helping to conduct pitch debriefs for both pitch wins/losses
Tracking and reporting on bid outcomesCollating and analysing internal and client feedback on our bid performance
Skills and Experience Required
Experience of working in the bids function, or similar (preferably for a legal services firm)
A self-starter who can work on own initiative and is proactive in developing ideas and solutions
Keen attention to detail including accurate writing, spelling and proof-reading skills
Excellent written communication and free text drafting skills
Well-developed persuading and influencing skills
Confident, assertive and resilient
Creative, inquisitive and adaptable
Committed to operating within a team with an ability to develop a network of influential internal and external contacts
Ability to use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Understands when to act and when to ask
Able to demonstrate an open mind by listening to people with different opinions
Ability to multi task and work to deadlines
Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
Willingness to take on additional responsibility and deputise for their line manager when required
Excellent working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel
