International Safeguarding Assurance Adviser
Location: Based from our head office in London
Hours: 21 hours per week, part time (including participation in an out of hours rota)
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: GBP24,000 per annum pro rata, dependent on experience, plus Inner London Weighting

Can you use your previous experience of safeguarding to help ensure that our global safeguarding response is robust and compliant?

At the British Red Cross, we take the safeguarding of people at risk of abuse or harm very seriously. We are establishing a new Safeguarding Assurance team, which will provide standardised, high quality guidance and support to all of our people, as required (including out of hours). The team will work closely with senior management and other colleagues engaged in similar safeguarding and protection work to ensure that all safeguarding concerns are responded to effectively, recorded accurately, and actions arising from these concerns are completed in a timely and appropriate manner.

As an International Safeguarding Assurance Adviser, you will provide specialist safeguarding support and guidance to our International directorate. You'll also offer support to our staff who have undertaken a voluntary role as International Safeguarding Officers, strengthening their role as local safeguarding 'champions'. In this role, you'll work closely alongside our International Safeguarding Lead and International Safeguarding/PSEA Adviser, utilising your specialist knowledge as required and informing staff of relevant issues and themes.

It's a complex and dynamic environment to work in and you'd be joining at a really exciting but challenging time, with a greater level of scrutiny of our safeguarding approach than ever before.

Who we're looking for
You will be an expert in directly safeguarding children and young people at risk of abuse and experienced working in line with an effective organisational safeguarding assurance approach. You will develop a portfolio of UK legislative knowledge in relation to safeguarding and will support diverse teams with their understanding across the UK. You will be working as part of a team of safeguarding experts and will be required to support and assist colleagues on a regular basis.

Key to your success in this role will be your sound organisational and planning skills, and ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in written communication.

The role is based at our UK office in Moorgate, however there will be a requirement for some travel within the UK with the possibility of some international travel also required. You will also be expected to participate in an out of hours safeguarding support rota as required. The role will work closely across two directorates and so previous experience of working within a matrix management structure is desirable.

Closing date for applications is 23:59 on Sunday 3rd March 2019
Interviews will take place in London on Monday 25th March 2019

We offer a wide range of staff benefits, these include:

  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank/ public holidays (pro rata for part time staff)
  • Option to buy an extra 5 days annual leave
  • Up to 6% contributory pension
  • Flexible working policy
